We hear your heartfelt request and join you in lifting this matter before the Lord. First, we must address the foundation of your prayer. While you mention "God," you do not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father (John 14:6, Ephesians 2:18). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to confess Jesus as Lord and Savior, repent of your sins, and place your trust in Him for eternal life.
Now, regarding your relationship, we must gently but firmly address the biblical principles that apply. You refer to this woman as your "girlfriend," but Scripture does not recognize dating or boyfriend/girlfriend relationships as God’s design. Instead, the Bible calls believers to pursue courtship with the intention of marriage, as marriage is the only God-ordained context for romantic love and intimacy (Genesis 2:24, Hebrews 13:4). If you are not yet ready or committed to marriage, we encourage you to step back and seek the Lord’s will for this relationship, ensuring it aligns with His purposes.
We also must address the issue of sexual purity. If you and your girlfriend are engaging in physical intimacy outside of marriage, this is fornication, which the Bible explicitly condemns (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). We urge you to repent of any sexual sin and commit to honoring God with your bodies, as they are temples of the Holy Spirit. If you are not married, we encourage you to set boundaries that reflect God’s holiness and to seek accountability in this area.
That said, we rejoice in your desire for strength and endurance in your relationship. Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We thank You for the gift of relationships and for the love You place in our hearts for one another. Lord, we ask that You strengthen this couple in their walk with You and with each other. Give them wisdom and discernment to pursue Your will above all else. If this relationship is not aligned with Your design, reveal that to them and give them the courage to obey You, even when it is difficult.
Father, we pray for purity in their hearts and minds. Guard them against temptation and help them to flee from sexual immorality. May they honor You with their bodies and their relationship, whether that leads to marriage or to a godly separation for Your glory. Teach them to love one another as Christ loves the Church, with selflessness, patience, and grace.
Lord, we ask that You draw them closer to You individually and as a couple. May their relationship be rooted in You, built on the foundation of Your Word, and guided by Your Spirit. Give them endurance to face challenges with faith and hope, knowing that You are with them. If marriage is Your will for them, prepare their hearts and lives for that sacred covenant. If not, give them the strength to trust You with their futures.
We rebuke any spirit of division, lust, or selfishness that may be at work in this relationship. We declare that this couple is covered by the blood of Jesus and that Your purposes for them will prevail. May they seek You first in all things and find their joy and fulfillment in You alone.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to seek godly counsel from mature believers who can walk alongside you in this season. Consider studying Scripture together, such as Ephesians 5:22-33, which outlines God’s design for marriage, or 1 Corinthians 13, which describes the kind of love that honors Him. Remember, the goal of any relationship should be to glorify God and to reflect His love to the world. If this relationship is not leading you toward that end, trust that God has something better in store for you both.
