We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear one who is bound by the chains of oppression. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but we declare that Jesus came so that he might have life—and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We stand in the authority of Christ, who has already disarmed the powers and principalities through His victory on the cross (Colossians 2:15). The struggles you’ve described—addiction, anger, paranoia, hatred, and a spirit of contention—are not from God, for He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
First, we must address the root of these battles. Addiction is a snare of the enemy, but we know that "no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). Anger and hatred do not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:20), and a heart quick to curse and argue is contrary to the peace and unity Christ calls us to (Ephesians 4:29-32). We rebuke these strongholds in the name of Jesus, for "the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4).
We also recognize that oppression often thrives where there is unrepentance and a lack of surrender to Christ. If this dear one has not fully submitted to Jesus as Lord, we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict and draw him near. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If he has not confessed Jesus as Lord and believed in his heart that God raised Him from the dead, we pray that today would be the day of salvation (Romans 10:9-10).
Father God, we come before You now, interceding for this beloved soul. We ask that You break every chain of addiction, anger, and fear that the enemy has used to bind him. Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon him, filling him with Your peace, love, and self-control. Let Your light shine into the darkest places of his heart, exposing every lie of the enemy and replacing it with Your truth. We declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37), and that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Lord, we pray for a spirit of repentance to fall upon him. If there has been sin—whether in thought, word, or deed—that has given the enemy a foothold, we ask that You lead him to turn away from it and seek Your forgiveness. Your Word says that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We pray that he would experience the freedom that comes from walking in the light with You.
We also ask for godly community to surround him. Let him not be isolated in his struggle, but let him find brothers and sisters in Christ who can walk alongside him, encourage him, and hold him accountable. Your Word tells us that iron sharpens iron, and so one man sharpens another (Proverbs 27:17). May he be surrounded by those who will speak life, pray over him, and remind him of Your promises.
Father, we ask that You would heal his mind and emotions. Let him cast all his anxieties on You, because You care for him (1 Peter 5:7). Replace paranoia with trust in Your sovereignty, hatred with love, and anger with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Let him know that You are his refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
We declare that the enemy has no authority over him, for he belongs to Christ. We break every curse, every word spoken against him, and every assignment of darkness in the mighty name of Jesus. We plead the blood of Jesus over his life, his mind, his emotions, and his spirit. Let every plan of the enemy be thwarted, and let Your will be done in his life.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would fill him with a hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6). Let him seek You above all else, knowing that in Your presence is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). May he find his identity in Christ, not in the lies of the enemy, and may he walk in the freedom that You have purchased for him.
We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness. We trust that You are at work even now, drawing him closer to You and setting him free. May he come to know the depth of Your love and the power of Your resurrection. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
