We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your husband and your own weary spirit. Alcoholism is a fierce battle, one that seeks to destroy not only the body but the soul and the very fabric of marriage and family. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name, for it is written, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13). Your husband has been given a chance at freedom—both from incarceration and from the chains of alcohol. We pray that he clings to Christ, who alone can break every chain.
We also lift you up, dear sister, for the weight you carry is great. Depression and despair can feel overwhelming, but we serve a God who sees your tears and collects them in His bottle (Psalm 56:8). You do not walk this path alone. The Lord promises, *"Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves"* (Psalm 126:5-6). We pray for a divine breakthrough in your life—a sudden shift, a miracle, a touch from the hand of God that turns your mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11).
We must also speak truth in love: addiction thrives in isolation, and recovery requires accountability, repentance, and a turning away from sin. If your husband has not yet surrendered this battle to the Lord, we urge him to do so now. *"Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom. Such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). The same power that raised Christ from the dead is available to break every stronghold—if he will only believe and submit to God’s will.
For you, we pray that the Lord would fill you with His peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. The God of all comfort is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). We declare over you that this season of sorrow will not last forever. The Lord is making a way where there seems to be no way. *"For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans for peace, and not for evil, to give you hope and a future"* (Jeremiah 29:11).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we are saved. Lord, we lift up this marriage and this family to You. We bind the spirit of addiction and command it to leave this man in Jesus’ name. Father, fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in sobriety, wisdom, and self-control. Give him a hunger for Your Word and a desire to live for You alone.
Lord, we also lift up this precious sister. You see her pain, her weariness, her tears. We ask that You would pour out Your comfort upon her. Break every chain of depression and despair. Let her feel Your presence in a tangible way. Father, we ask for a divine breakthrough—a sudden turnaround, a miracle, a touch from You that changes everything. Restore what has been lost. Heal what has been broken. Let her walk in the fullness of joy that comes from You alone.
We declare that this marriage will be restored, not by human strength, but by Your power. We speak life, healing, and reconciliation over this family. May they both draw closer to You and to one another. Father, we ask that You would bless them with godly counsel, accountability, and a church family that will support them in their walk with You.
We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness. We thank You that You are working even when we cannot see it. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun in them. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
