Hold Fast Your Shield
Hold fast to unwavering trust in Christ, for it brings strength, joy, and eternal reward.
Victor Emmanuel, Emancipator
Christ sets spiritual captives free by opening blind eyes, breaking sin’s chains, and lifting the despondent into hope.
Light for Those Who Sit in Darkness
Even the deepest darkness of ignorance and despair gives way to Christ’s great light for those who see him.
We thank you for sharing this prayer and we gladly stand with you in faith and in agreement over this wanting spirit and over the battle against darkness.

We understand this wanting spirit as that restless sense of lack, of never having enough, of covetousness and discontent that can follow even faithful practitioners and believers. The Scripture teaches us that godliness with contentment is great gain, 1 Timothy 6:6, and that we are to learn in whatever state we are to be content, Philippians 4:11. The Lord Himself has said I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you, Hebrews 13:5, and that The Lord is our shepherd we shall not want, Psalm 23:1. A wanting spirit whispers that God has not provided enough, but the truth is that our God will supply every need of ours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:19. We rebuke that spirit of lack and covetousness and we ask the Lord to replace it with holy contentment, gratitude, and trust in His perfect provision.

We also join you in praying against principalities and powers of darkness in high places, for we know that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Ephesians 6:12. Yet we do not fear, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 2 Corinthians 10:4, and greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4.

We do pray with you for favor and blessing and for miracles, but we ask for them according to the Father's will and for His glory, not merely for our own desires, remembering that you ask and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures, James 4:3. True favor is found when we seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to us as well, Matthew 6:33, and when we delight ourselves in the Lord He will give us the desires of our heart, Psalm 37:4. We pray that any favor, any miracle, any blessing would draw hearts to Christ and display His unstoppable and abounding glory all over the world, for to Him be the glory forever, Romans 11:36.

We now pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, with thanksgiving. We lift up every practitioner and every believer who is battling a wanting spirit and we ask You to rebuke that spirit of lack, envy and discontent. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, with contentment and with peace that surpasses all understanding. Let us rest in Your shepherd care and in Your faithful provision. We take authority in Jesus' name over every principality and power of darkness in high places that would try to steal, kill and destroy, and we declare that they have no hold where Christ reigns. We ask for Your favor, not for selfish gain but for Your purposes to be accomplished. We ask for Your miracles and blessings according to Your perfect will, that Your extreme, unmatched and abounding glory would be seen throughout the earth and that many would be drawn to salvation through Jesus. Let Your will be done in our lives as it is in heaven. We thank You that where two or three are gathered in Your name You are there among us, Matthew 18:20, and we thank You that You hear us when we pray in Jesus' name. We give You all glory, honor and praise. In Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.

Thank you for sharing your heart so openly with us. We hear your longing for God's favor and goodness to be evident in your life and around the world, and your desire to stand against darkness in Jesus' name. We are glad to stand with you in prayer.

One thing that has helped many of us is to remember that spiritual warfare is real, and at the same time God calls us to a steady, grounded walk with Him rather than chasing the extreme or unspeakable experience. Wanting more of God is good, and He often grows us gradually as we stay close to Him day by day, like training over time rather than a single moment.

It might encourage you to keep a simple rhythm in the coming weeks, setting aside unhurried time to pray and read Scripture, and sharing your prayers with a trusted pastor or a small group who can agree with you in person and help you discern what God is doing. That fellowship can be a steady support as you seek His will.

Father, we bring our brother before You in Jesus' name. We ask for Your protection, Your wisdom and Your peace to guard his heart. Draw him closer to You, shape his desires by Your will, and let Your glory be seen in his life in the way You choose. Lead him in Your goodness and keep him close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your prayer and we do join with you in seeking the Lord, for your desire to be delivered from a wanting spirit is itself a work of grace in the heart.

You will see at once that contentment in all states is not a natural propensity of man. Covetousness, discontent and murmuring are as natural to man as thorns are to the soil. Ill weeds grow apace without cultivation, but contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated. Remember that a mans contentment is in his mind, not in the extent of his possessions. Alexander, with all the world at his feet, cries for another world to conquer, and so the heart that is set upon mere favor and blessings and miracles as outward things shall never be satisfied, though they be multiplied.

What you call a wanting spirit, the Scripture calls covetousness, and the cure for it is not to obtain more, but to be satisfied with Christ. True favor is not a repeated word but free and undeserved grace, that gracious favor of God which forgives and blots out sin and iniquity when a man is as full of sin as an egg is full of meat. True deliverance is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He has found a ransom, and deliverance from sin is solely by the power of God through the lamb that was slain. He brought them forth also with silver and gold, but far richer is the enrichment that comes through the deliverance wrought out by the Lord Jesus Christ.

You ask prayer also against principalities and powers of darkness in high places. This is a holy warfare to which every saved man is called. Having received the light, we carry it into the dark places, arrayed in the panoply of God and grasping the sword of the Spirit. Yet our refuge in this conflict is not our much speaking, but the Eternal God Himself. He is our refuge in a thousand ways, and the clock of mercy strikes in heaven the hour and moment of deliverance according to His eternal purpose.

Therefore let us pray not for an abundance of outward glory for its own sake, but that Christ may be glorified in us, and that we may have grace to declare the works of the Lord after our afflictions and deliverances.

Let us pray together. O Eternal God, our Refuge, we confess that our hearts are prone to want and to wander, and we ask Thee to root out the thorn of covetousness and to cultivate in us that heavenly flower of contentment which is learned only at the feet of Christ, who has taught us in whatsoever state we are, therewith to be content. Give us not merely outward favors, but Thy free favor in Christ Jesus, the forgiveness of sins through His precious ransom. Deliver us from the pit by Thy power alone, and let no atom of the honor of that deliverance be taken to ourselves, but let it be of free grace only. Guard us in the warfare against the powers of darkness, clothe us in Christ, and keep us in peace within our borders. Teach us to live not for unspeakable earthly glory, but for the glory of Thy Son, that whether Thou givest much or little, we may say, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. All this we humbly ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, with thanksgiving. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire to seek God in prayer is good and we join with you to bring this request before Him with care and truth.

We hear in your words a painful struggle with a wanting spirit, a desire for more favor and more blessings and more abundance. Scripture speaks directly to this struggle and calls it covetousness. The apostle teaches that contentment with godliness is great gain, and that our way of life should be without covetousness. This does not mean we are to possess nothing, but that we are to show a sober and faithful mind by seeking only what is necessary and by learning to use this world as not abusing it, having as though we possessed not, and rejoicing in wealth as though we rejoiced not. When we have what we need, we can trust His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us, so that we can boldly say the Lord is our helper and we will not fear.

You also rightly remember that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the spiritual wickedness in high places. That warfare is real and hard, and it requires strong armor and a sober, watchful spirit. God does not give to us in that battle a spirit of constant excitement or the love of gain, but He gives what we most need, a contrite and humbled heart, sober and self possessed, full of repentance and compunction. If we are always seeking more and taking things lightly, we will be overthrown even before the conflict. But if we are earnest and awake and obedient to our Commander, He stands by us unconquerable and equips us.

So we will pray with you, but not for an increase of covetous desire. We pray for deliverance from it. We pray that God will loosen the bitter bondage of wanting more and more, which enslaves the soul, and that He will transfer that hunger to a new object, a hunger and thirst for righteousness. True favor is His grace, true blessing is to be made an instrument of righteousness, and true glory is His glory revealed in a holy life, not in unstoppable earthly abundance.

Let us pray together. Father, we thank You that You hear us in Jesus Christ. We ask You to forgive us for covetous thoughts and for seeking superfluities. Grant to our brother and sister a contented heart, satisfied with Your provision, trusting Your promise never to leave nor forsake. Give a contrite and humble spirit, sober and watchful against the schemes of darkness. Clothe us with Your armor, make us steadfast in faith, and let our lives show that we desire only what pleases You. Let Your true glory be seen in us as we walk in godliness and love. All this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, with thanksgiving. Amen.
