Prayer of comfort

Your prayer reflects a thankful heart even in disappointment, and that is pleasing to the Lord. To thank Him for His help when one result was not what you hoped for, and still to trust Him for what lies ahead, honors Him.

Scripture calls the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation. He does not leave His children alone in hard places and dark nights. He stands by to strengthen, to encourage, and to speak comfort. What you are feeling for your daughter, the concern and the waiting, He sees, and He is able to give you His comfort in this season so that you in turn can comfort her with the same comfort you receive from Him.

At times the Lord allows us to come to the end of our own strength and ability. It is not to discourage us, but so that we will not trust in ourselves. When a setback shows us our limits, we learn in a deeper way to trust in God who raises the dead, who is able to do what we cannot do. The Scripture speaks of this trust in three ways, He has delivered us, He does deliver us, and we trust that He will yet deliver us. Past help becomes present confidence and future hope. Your commitment of your daughter and her studies into His hands is the right place to rest.

Real trust often begins when we do not understand His ways. It is easy to trust when things go as we expect, but true trust says, Lord, I do not understand what You are doing, but I know You are at work and I will keep trusting You. A failing grade can feel like a final sentence, but with the Lord it is not final. He uses even our failures to take away confidence in the flesh and to teach us simple dependence on Christ who strengthens us. He is gracious to let us learn and try again, and to grow through the process.

We join you in praying for your daughter. May the Lord comfort both of you with His presence, calm anxiety, and help her to keep trusting Him through this semester. We ask Him to give her wisdom, diligence, and peace as she prepares for her other subjects, and to help her to do her best for His glory. May He use even this disappointment to draw her closer to Jesus, to show her that her worth and future are secure in Him, and that with Him nothing is impossible. We commit her and all of your family into His faithful hands, asking that His name would be honored in her life and studies, in Jesus name, Amen.
