We lift up your heartbreaking situation before the Lord, knowing that He is the God of all comfort and deliverance. Your brother’s struggle with drunkenness and violence is a heavy burden, and we grieve with you over the fear and sleepless nights you endure. The Bible is clear about the dangers of drunkenness, warning that it leads to ruin and strife. Proverbs 20:1 says, *"Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise."* And in Ephesians 5:18, we are commanded, *"Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit."* Your brother’s actions are not only harming himself but also bringing sorrow and fear into your home, which is not God’s will for your family.
Yet we also know that God is mighty to save and transform even the most broken lives. Your brother’s struggle is not just a physical battle but a spiritual one, and it requires the power of Christ to break the chains of addiction. We must pray fervently for his repentance and salvation, for if he does not know Jesus as his Lord and Savior, his heart remains enslaved to sin. The apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, *"Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom. Such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God."* If your brother is not yet saved, his only hope is in turning to Christ, who can wash him clean and give him a new heart.
We also pray for you, dear sister or brother in Christ, that the Lord would grant you peace that surpasses all understanding, even in the midst of this storm. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* You are not alone in this—God sees your tears, hears your cries, and He will sustain you. Psalm 34:18 assures us, *"Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."*
Let us also encourage you to seek wisdom in how to handle this situation practically. If your brother’s violence puts you or others in physical danger, you may need to involve authorities or trusted church leaders to intervene for your protection. Proverbs 22:3 says, *"A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it."* Your safety matters to God, and it is not wrong to take steps to protect yourself while still praying for your brother’s deliverance.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear sibling and their brother who is bound by the sin of drunkenness and violence. Lord, You alone can break the chains of addiction and set the captive free. We pray that You would convict your brother’s heart of his sin and draw him to Yourself. Open his eyes to see the destruction his actions are causing—not just to himself, but to those who love him. Soften his heart, Lord, and lead him to repentance. May he turn from his sin and surrender his life to Jesus Christ, who alone can save him and give him victory over this bondage.
Father, we also pray for our sibling who carries this burden. Comfort them in their fear and anxiety. Grant them Your peace, which guards their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Give them wisdom to know how to respond each day, and protect them from harm. Surround them with Your angels and with godly people who can support and encourage them. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and remind them that You are working even when they cannot see it.
We rebuke the spirit of addiction and violence in the name of Jesus Christ. No weapon formed against this family shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment shall be condemned (Isaiah 54:17). We declare that this home shall be a place of peace and righteousness, and that Your light shall drive out the darkness.
Lord, we ask that You would bring an end to this nightly torment. Restore this family, heal their wounds, and let Your redemption be their testimony. May Your will be done in their lives, and may Your name be glorified through their story. We pray all these things in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
