I am writing to express concerns regarding the current employment practices in Singapore, particularly the growing preference for hiring foreign workers over Singaporean citizens. This trend is not only affecting local employment but also contributing to increasing dissatisfaction among Singaporeans, many of whom are now boycotting and blacklisting local businesses. The disproportionate hiring of foreign workers for full-time positions, while Singaporeans are often offered only contractual roles, is perceived as unfair. This practice is leading to a decline in support for local businesses, as more Singaporeans choose to shop and invest in Malaysian companies, further exacerbating the issue. If this trend continues, there is a genuine risk of long-term damage to Singapore’s economy. The collective boycott of local businesses by Singaporean citizens could lead to a permanent weakening of our commercial sector, making recovery difficult. I urge the government to reconsider employment policies and to take swift action to prioritize the hiring of Singaporeans, ensuring that local talent is not overlooked. It is essential to maintain a balance that supports both economic growth and fair employment opportunities for our citizens. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope that steps will be taken to address these concerns and ensure a sustainable future for Singapore’s economy.
