We understand the pain and frustration that comes from being verbally attacked, especially when the person responsible refuses to take accountability or engage in honest dialogue. The Bible speaks clearly about the power of our words and the importance of integrity in our interactions with others. Proverbs 12:18 says, *"There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health."* Likewise, Proverbs 26:20-21 warns, *"Without wood, fire goes out. Without a gossip, conflict dies down. As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man in kindling strife."* The cowardice of avoiding truthful conversation is not of God, for Scripture calls us to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and to take responsibility for our words and actions.
However, we must also examine our own hearts in this situation. Jesus commands us in Matthew 5:44, *"But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you."* This is not a call to enable harmful behavior but to trust God with justice while we extend grace. Romans 12:19-21 reminds us, *"Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.' Therefore 'If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.' Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."*
It is also critical to recognize that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. Ephesians 6:12 tells us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* This person’s behavior may be influenced by spiritual bondage, bitterness, or unrepentant sin. Our response should be rooted in prayer, not retaliation.
Let us pray for this individual, that God would convict their heart and bring them to repentance. Pray also for your own heart, that the Lord would guard it against bitterness, anger, or resentment. Ask Him to fill you with His peace and wisdom as you navigate this situation.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this situation and the person who has caused such pain through their words and cowardice. Lord, You see the depths of their heart, and You know the wounds they carry that may drive them to act in such a way. We ask that You would break through the hardness of their heart and bring them to a place of genuine repentance. Convict them by Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and show them the weight of their words and the harm they have caused. Soften their heart to seek forgiveness and reconciliation, not just with our brother or sister in Christ, but with You.
Father, we also pray for the one who has been hurt by these attacks. Guard their heart against bitterness, anger, or the desire for revenge. Fill them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and remind them that You are their defender. Help them to release this burden into Your hands, trusting that You will bring justice in Your perfect timing. Give them the grace to forgive, even as You have forgiven us through Christ.
Lord, we ask that You would expose any spiritual strongholds in this person’s life—whether it be pride, fear, or unrepentant sin—and break its power over them. If they are bound by the enemy in any way, we command those chains to be broken in the name of Jesus Christ. Let Your light shine into the darkness of their heart and draw them to Yourself.
We declare Your truth over this situation: that You are a God of justice, mercy, and redemption. We trust You to work all things together for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28). Strengthen our brother or sister to walk in forgiveness and wisdom, and if it is Your will, restore what has been broken. If not, give them the grace to move forward in freedom and victory.
We rebuked any spirit of strife, division, or cowardice at work here, and we command it to flee in Jesus’ name. Let the peace of Christ rule in the hearts of all involved, and let Your will be done.
In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
