Ellison, we rejoice with you in your deep desire for personal holiness—a heart cry that aligns perfectly with God’s will for His children. Scripture declares, *"As he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all of your behavior; because it is written, 'You shall be holy; for I am holy.'" (1 Peter 1:15-16 WEB)*. This is not a call to perfection in our own strength, but to a surrendered life where the Holy Spirit continually refines us, making us more like Christ.
We must acknowledge, however, that holiness is not merely about being "cleansed" from sin in a single moment, though the blood of Jesus does wash us white as snow (Isaiah 1:18). It is a daily walk of repentance, obedience, and dependence on God. The apostle Paul reminds us, *"Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure."* (Philippians 2:12-13 WEB). Holiness is both a gift and a pursuit—God’s grace enables us to grow in it as we submit to Him.
Yet we must also rebuke the subtle lie that we can achieve holiness through our own efforts alone. The prophet Jeremiah warns, *"The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?"* (Jeremiah 17:9 WEB). Our flesh will always war against the Spirit (Galatians 5:17), and without Christ, we can do nothing (John 15:5). True holiness begins with humility, recognizing our utter need for Jesus—not just for initial salvation, but for every moment of our lives. Have you placed your faith fully in Him, or are you still trying to earn righteousness through your own works?
We also encourage you to examine your life for any unconfessed sin or areas where you may be grieving the Holy Spirit. Are there habits, thoughts, or relationships that are hindering your growth in holiness? The psalmist prayed, *"Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way."* (Psalm 139:23-24 WEB). We must be willing to let God expose and remove anything that does not belong in the life of a believer.
Let us pray with you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother ###. Lord, You have begun a good work in him, and we pray that You would complete it until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6). Father, we ask that You would create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him (Psalm 51:10). Wash him thoroughly from his iniquity and cleanse him from his sin (Psalm 51:2). We declare that the blood of Jesus, Your Son, cleanses him from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:7).
Holy Spirit, we ask that You would fill ### afresh, empowering him to walk in holiness and obedience. Convict him of any sin, and give him the grace to repent quickly. Help him to put off the old man with its deeds and to put on the new man, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator (Colossians 3:9-10). Father, we pray that You would set him apart for Your purposes, that he would be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful to the Master, prepared for every good work (2 Timothy 2:21).
Lord, we also pray against any deception or discouragement from the enemy. Remind ### that he is Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which You prepared beforehand, that he should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). Strengthen him in his inner man, that Christ may dwell in his heart through faith, and that he may be rooted and grounded in love (Ephesians 3:16-17).
We thank You, Father, that You are faithful to complete the work You have started in ###. We trust in Your promise that He who began a good work in him will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. May ###’s life be a living testimony of Your transforming power, to the glory and praise of Your name. In Jesus’ holy and precious name we pray, Amen.
###, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word daily, for it is the sword of the Spirit that cuts away the flesh and renews the mind (Hebrews 4:12, Romans 12:2). Surround yourself with fellow believers who will sharpen you and hold you accountable (Proverbs 27:17). And remember, holiness is not about legalism or outward appearances, but about a heart that loves God and desires to please Him in all things.
Finally, if you have not yet surrendered your life fully to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. Scripture says, *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."* (Romans 10:9 WEB). There is no holiness apart from Him, and no salvation outside of His name. If you have not made this decision, we would love to guide you further in this most important step. Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6), and it is only through Him that we can be made holy.
