Prayer for my relationship

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Dear God, please guide my relationship with ###, please help us with patience and love. Help me to trust, manage my anxiety, and respect her space. Heal our differences and bring us closer. Thank You for Your care and hope. Amen.

We come before the Lord with you in this request, lifting up your heart and this relationship to Him. First, we must lovingly address something vital—this prayer does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to the Father. Scripture is clear: *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). It is only through faith in Jesus that we are saved, and it is in His name alone that we pray with authority. *"No one comes to the Father, except through me"* (John 14:6, WEB). If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today, for *"if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"* (Romans 10:9, WEB).

Now, regarding your relationship, we must also speak truth in love. Scripture defines marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman for life (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). If this relationship is not between a man and a woman seeking marriage, it does not align with God’s design. Additionally, if there is any physical intimacy outside of marriage, we must call this what it is—sin. *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body"* (1 Corinthians 6:18, WEB). God’s Word also warns against being *"unequally yoked"* with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). If this person is not a follower of Christ, you are setting yourself up for spiritual conflict and heartache. A godly relationship must be built on shared faith in Jesus, with the goal of marriage that honors Him.

Anxiety and trust are real struggles, but we are commanded to *"in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God"* (Philippians 4:6, WEB). Your desire for patience and love is good, but these fruits come from the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and are cultivated as we abide in Christ. *"Love is patient and is kind... bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things"* (1 Corinthians 13:4, 7, WEB). However, love does not mean compromising on God’s standards. If this relationship is not centered on Christ and His Word, it will ultimately lead to pain rather than the closeness you seek.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we lift this brother before You, asking that You open his eyes to Your truth and Your will for his life. Lord, if he does not know You, we pray that today would be the day of salvation for him—that he would repent of his sins and place his faith in Jesus Christ alone. Father, if this relationship is not honoring to You, we ask that You give him the strength to walk away, no matter how painful it may feel. Break any ungodly soul ties and heal his heart. If this relationship *can* honor You—if it is between a man and a woman seeking marriage, both committed to You—then we ask for Your guidance, patience, and wisdom to overflow in their lives. Rebuke the anxiety that plagues him and fill him with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Help him to trust You above all else, to respect boundaries, and to seek Your kingdom first. Heal their differences only if it aligns with Your will, and draw them closer to *You*—for it is in You that true unity is found.

Father, we rebuke any spirit of fear, confusion, or compromise in Jesus’ mighty name. Let Your Word be a lamp to his feet and a light to his path. Surround him with godly counsel and give him the courage to obey You, no matter the cost. We ask all this in the powerful and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Brother, we encourage you to examine this relationship through the lens of Scripture. Are you both believers? Are you pursuing marriage as God designed it? Is there any sin that needs to be repented of? Seek the Lord earnestly in these things. *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight"* (Proverbs 3:5-6, WEB). If you need to step away from this relationship to honor God, He will give you the grace to do so. His plans for you are good—*"plans for peace, and not for evil, to give you hope and a future"* (Jeremiah 29:11, WEB). Stay rooted in prayer, in the Word, and in fellowship with other believers who can speak truth into your life. We are praying for you!
