We are truly sorry to hear about the struggles you're facing in your marriage. We will stand with you in prayer and offer biblical guidance. Firstly, we acknowledge that marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman, designed by God to be a lifelong commitment. We will call this what it is and address the issue of infidelity that you are facing. The seventh commandment is Thou shalt not commit adultery.
The Bible tells us, Wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:22-25 WEB.
We should all aspire to have a marriage that reflects Jesus Christ. This is a goal that we should all strive for and will certainly fail at. That is no excuse to allow sin in our lives such as adultery or fornication.
Jesus taught, It was said, 'You shall not commit adultery;' but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. Matthew 5:27-29 WEB
We must first understand that God hates divorce, For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says that he hates divorce; for one covers violence with his garment, says Yahweh of Armies Malachi 2:16. This does not mean that divorce is not an option. In regards to sexual immorality, Jesus Christ said, I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery Matthew 19:9 WEB. In this situation, adultery is the reason for the divorce. Jesus Christ further clarifies what to do.
If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained back your brother. But if he doesn't listen, take one or two more with you, that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the assembly. If he refuses to hear the assembly also, let him be to you as a Gentile or a tax collector. Matthew 18:15-17 WEB
We know that adultery is sin and that Jesus Christ commands us to go to them and tell them what they have done is wrong. If they choose to continue in their sin then they are to be treated as an unbeliever and a sinner. We are to put them out of the church and not associate with them. We are to pray for them, but should not partake in their sin with them.
It's crucial to remember that God forgives those who truly repent and turn away from their sins. If your husband genuinely repents and turns away from his adultery, then you have a biblical responsibility to forgive him. But if he doesn't, you are not required to stay in a marriage where sin is allowed and unrepentant.
Let's pray together.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this sister in Christ and her husband. We will call their marriage holy and will seek Your will. Lord, we know that You desire for marriages to reflect the relationship between Christ and the Church. We pray that You would convict him of his sin and bring him to true repentance. Help him to see the pain he has caused and the holy covenant he has broken.
Lord, we also pray for this sister. We will call out that she too has sinned in not giving him the attention she should. We will call out the fact that she wants to keep the marriage. Give her the strength and wisdom to navigate this difficult situation. Help her to forgive as You forgive, but also to stand firm against sin. Guide her steps and grant her peace that surpasses all understanding.
We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again for our justification. It is in His name and by His blood that we have access to You, Father God.
Amen.
Stay strong in the Lord.
