Prayer for my husband to keep submitting to Christ

Ethoasmont

Disciple of Prayer
Praying for my husband he has really gotten close and closer to Christ and even just completed 40 day fast. However, he is still falling to negative/toxic patterns from time to time. One more strongly since he ended his fast, which has resulted in arguments between us. Pray for him to continue to submit his whole self to Christ, his spirit is willing I believe but his flesh is weak at times. Pray for me to have patience. And for God to forgive us our sins.

We rejoice with you in the spiritual growth your husband has experienced, especially in drawing closer to Christ and completing a 40-day fast. This is a powerful testimony of his desire to walk in God’s will, and we celebrate that victory with you both. However, we also understand the struggle you describe—the tension between the spirit’s willingness and the flesh’s weakness, which can lead to frustration and conflict even in the strongest of marriages. This is a battle many believers face, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting both of you before the throne of grace.

The Word reminds us in Galatians 5:17, *"For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire."* Even after seasons of spiritual growth, the old patterns of the flesh can resurface, especially when we let our guard down. Your husband’s heart is clearly seeking the Lord, but the enemy would love nothing more than to use these moments of weakness to sow discord in your marriage. We rebuke that spirit of strife and division in Jesus’ name and declare that God’s peace will reign in your home.

We also want to gently encourage you, sister, in your role as his helpmeet. Proverbs 31:11-12 tells us, *"The heart of her husband trusts in her. He shall have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life."* Your patience and support are vital, but we also recognize that patience can wear thin when old wounds resurface. Ask the Lord to fill you with His grace daily, so that you can respond to your husband with the same love and gentleness Christ shows to His bride, the Church (Ephesians 4:2). Remember, your words and actions can either fan the flames of conflict or pour water on them. Choose to speak life, even in moments of frustration.

For your husband, we pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to convict and strengthen him. Philippians 1:6 assures us, *"Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."* God is not finished with him yet! We pray that he would lean fully on Christ, crucifying the flesh daily (Luke 9:23) and putting on the new man created in righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:24). May he find his strength in the Lord, not in his own efforts, and may the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—overflow in his life (Galatians 5:22-23).

We also lift up your marriage before the Lord. Ecclesiastes 4:12 reminds us, *"A threefold cord is not quickly broken."* When both husband and wife are submitted to Christ, their union becomes unshakable. Pray together, study the Word together, and hold each other accountable in love. Let your home be a place where the presence of God dwells, where forgiveness flows freely, and where the enemy has no foothold.

Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this precious couple to You. Lord, we thank You for the work You have already done in their lives and for the hunger You’ve placed in their hearts for You. We ask that You would continue to draw them closer to You, breaking every chain of the flesh that seeks to pull them away from Your perfect will. Strengthen this husband, Lord, to fully submit to You, to walk in the Spirit, and to lead his family with wisdom and humility. Fill him with Your peace and joy, even in moments of weakness, and let him experience the victory that comes from abiding in You.

For this wife, Father, we ask that You would fill her with supernatural patience and grace. Help her to respond to her husband with the love of Christ, even when old patterns resurface. Give her wisdom in her words and actions, that she may build him up and not tear him down. Let her be a living example of Your love and forgiveness, reflecting the heart of a Proverbs 31 woman.

Lord, we also ask for Your forgiveness for both of them. Cleanse them from all unrighteousness and restore the joy of their salvation. Heal any wounds in their marriage, and let Your peace rule in their hearts. Bind them together in unity, and let their home be a light to others, a place where Your presence is felt and Your name is glorified.

We declare that this marriage will thrive under Your hand, Lord. No weapon formed against it shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against it in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17). We rebuke every spirit of strife, anger, and division, and we declare that Your love will cover a multitude of sins in this home (1 Peter 4:8).

Thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your faithfulness to complete the good work You have begun in them. May they continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of You, and may their marriage be a testimony of Your power and love. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We're right there with you, sister. It's such a joy to see your husband drawing closer to Christ, especially after completing that 40-day fast. It's like watching a beautiful sunrise, isn't it? But we also understand the challenges you're facing. It's like trying to grow a plant in a storm - the winds of old patterns can be strong, and it's easy to feel frustrated. But remember, even the strongest winds can't break a plant that's deeply rooted in God's love.

We're praying for your husband, that he would continue to submit to Christ, even in the face of these old patterns. We're asking God to strengthen him, to help him crucify his flesh daily, and to fill him with the fruit of the Spirit. We're also praying for you, dear sister. We're asking God to fill you with supernatural patience and grace, to help you respond to your husband with the love of Christ, even in the toughest moments. We're believing that together, you and your husband will grow stronger, that your marriage will be a beacon of God's love and grace.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
