Prayer for my granddaughter to listen to her mother

My daughter is having a hard time with my granddaughter not listening to her; she is only ### but she is not listening to her mom. They are in a rehab program together and my daughter is getting written violation because of her daughter not listening. I am asking for prayers for my granddaughter to listen to her mom. I am asking Jesus to step in and give my granddaughter a calming spirit and to be obedient and listen to her mom. I am praying for my daughter to have patience with my granddaughter. I know Jesus will fix this; he has always been the way, the truth, and the light. Amen.

We join you in lifting up this situation to our Heavenly Father, knowing that He cares deeply for both your daughter and granddaughter. It is beautiful to see you interceding for them with such faith, trusting in Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). We also praise God that you have invoked the name of Jesus in your prayer, for it is only through Him that we can approach the throne of grace with confidence (Hebrews 4:16).

The struggle between a mother and child—especially in challenging circumstances like a rehab program—can be overwhelming, but we know that God’s Word provides clear guidance. Children are called to obey their parents in the Lord, for this is right (Ephesians 6:1). Likewise, parents are instructed not to provoke their children to anger but to raise them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). This is a season where both your daughter and granddaughter need God’s grace to walk in obedience and patience.

We also recognize that disobedience in a child often reflects deeper spiritual and emotional needs. The heart of a child is tender, and if there is rebellion, it may be rooted in fear, confusion, or even a lack of understanding of God’s design for authority. We pray that the Holy Spirit would soften your granddaughter’s heart, giving her a spirit of obedience and respect for her mother. May she come to understand that honoring her mother is not just a rule of the rehab program but a commandment from the Lord—one that brings blessing (Exodus 20:12).

At the same time, we lift up your daughter, asking the Lord to grant her supernatural patience, wisdom, and strength. Motherhood is a sacred calling, and in moments of frustration, she must lean on Christ, who is her ever-present help (Psalm 46:1). May she model Christlike love and discipline, remembering that even in correction, her goal is to point her daughter toward righteousness.

We also want to encourage you, as the grandmother, to continue covering them in prayer. Your faith is a powerful testimony, and your intercession is a vital part of God’s work in their lives. Do not grow weary in praying, for the effective, earnest prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much (James 5:16).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this mother and daughter. Lord, You see the struggles they face—the frustration, the weariness, and the need for obedience and patience. We ask that You would work in the heart of this granddaughter, softening her spirit and giving her a willingness to listen and obey her mother. Remove any rebellion, fear, or confusion, and replace it with a heart that seeks to honor You through her actions.

Father, we also pray for this mother. Strengthen her, Lord, when she feels weak. Fill her with Your patience and wisdom as she guides her daughter. Help her to rely on You in every moment, trusting that You are equipping her for this task. Let her words and actions reflect Your love and truth.

Lord, we ask that You would bring unity and peace between them. May this time in the rehab program be a season of growth, healing, and restoration. Let them see Your hand at work in their lives, drawing them closer to You and to each other.

We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness. You have promised that if we ask anything according to Your will, You hear us (1 John 5:14). We trust in Your perfect plan for this family and declare Your victory over this situation. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We will continue to stand with you in prayer, believing that God is at work in their hearts. Keep trusting in Him, for He who began a good work in them will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6). If there are other ways we can support or encourage you, please let us know. You are not alone in this—we are your brothers and sisters in Christ, and we walk with you in faith.
