Prayer for my break in ### and for protection

Karaithor

Disciple of Prayer
I work full-time and also care for my ###-year-old mum, and every year I take a short break in December. This year, I’ll be travelling to Sri Lanka from 30 November to 20 December with my three cousins, my sister, and my ###-year-old aunt.

Could you please pray that I have a truly restful break? Please also pray for a safe trip — for God’s protection from any natural disasters or landslides so we can do our excursions safely, and for a good driver/guide to look after us on the road.

I’ve planned this trip with my aunt in mind. She is very fit and loves churches, gardens, and music. This will be her last overseas trip, and she hasn’t been back to Sri Lanka since she was two years old. She has always wanted to see our ancestral homes, and I really hope she enjoys every moment. Additionally please pray for Mum back in ### — my older sister will be taking good care of her.

Thank you so much for your prayers it means so much to me.

We lift you up in prayer, dear sister, as you seek rest and renewal during this well-deserved break, and we rejoice with you in the opportunity to bless your aunt with this meaningful journey. The Lord knows the weariness of your body and soul as you faithfully balance work and the care of your mother, and He promises rest to those who trust in Him. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 11:28, *"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest."* We pray that this trip will be a time of true refreshment for you—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—as you step away from your daily responsibilities to experience the peace that only He can provide.

Your heart for your aunt is beautiful, and we ask the Lord to make this trip a precious and unforgettable time for her. What a blessing it is that she will walk the land of her ancestors and see the places she has longed for! May the Lord fill her heart with joy as she visits the churches, gardens, and homes tied to her heritage. Psalm 37:4 reminds us, *"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."* We pray that this journey will be a fulfillment of that promise for her, and that every moment will be saturated with His goodness. May she encounter His presence in the beauty of His creation, in the music that stirs her soul, and in the fellowship of family. May this trip be a testament to His faithfulness across generations, and may it strengthen her faith as she reflects on His provision throughout her life.

We also lift up your mother, who remains in your care even as you are away. How gracious of the Lord to provide your sister to stand in the gap during this time! We pray for your mother’s health, safety, and peace, that she would feel your love even in your absence. May the Lord surround her with His comfort and protection, and may your sister be filled with wisdom, patience, and strength as she cares for her. We ask that the Lord would ease any anxiety you may feel about leaving her, trusting that He is the ultimate Caregiver. Psalm 121:3-4 assures us, *"He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep."* Rest in that promise, dear sister, knowing that He watches over both your mother and you.

As you travel, we pray for the Lord’s mighty hand of protection over your entire group. Sri Lanka is a land of great beauty, but we are mindful of the natural risks that come with travel, especially in regions prone to landslides or unpredictable weather. We claim Psalm 91:9-11 over you: *"Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways."* We pray for safe travels, for protection from accidents, illness, or natural disasters, and for wisdom in every decision made along the way. May the Lord provide a skilled and trustworthy driver and guide, one who is attentive, cautious, and led by the Lord’s direction. May every excursion be filled with wonder and free from harm, and may your time together as family be knit with love, laughter, and unity.

We also pray for the spiritual atmosphere of your trip. Colossians 3:17 reminds us, *"Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him."* May this journey be more than just a vacation—may it be an opportunity to glorify God together, to share testimonies of His faithfulness, and to encourage one another in the faith. We pray that your time in Sri Lanka would be marked by moments of worship, whether in the churches you visit or in the quiet reflection of God’s creation. May the Lord open doors for you to be a light to those you encounter, whether it’s your driver, fellow travelers, or locals you meet. Let your joy and gratitude be a witness to the hope you have in Christ.

Before we close, we must gently address something we noticed in your request: the name of Jesus was not invoked in your prayer. Scripture is clear that our access to the Father is only through the Son. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* And in John 16:23-24, He tells us, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full."* It is only by the authority of Jesus’ name that we can approach the throne of God with confidence (Hebrews 4:16). We encourage you, sister, to always pray in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we are saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so today. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved (Acts 16:31). Repent of your sins, confess Him as Lord, and walk in the newness of life He offers. There is no greater rest than the rest found in Him.

Now, let us pray together over you and your family:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who has poured out her heart before You. Lord, You see her weariness, her love for her family, and her desire for this trip to be a blessing to all. We ask that You would grant her true rest—rest for her body, her mind, and her spirit. Renew her strength, Lord, as she takes this time away, and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

We thank You for the opportunity she has to honor her aunt with this journey. Lord, make it a time of deep joy and fulfillment for her. Let her see Your hand in every detail, from the ancestral homes she visits to the churches where she worships. May this trip be a beautiful reminder of Your faithfulness across generations, and may it draw her closer to You. Surround her with Your presence, Lord, and let her heart overflow with gratitude.

We pray for safety over every mile of their travels. Protect them from harm, Lord, whether from natural disasters, accidents, or illness. Provide them with a wise and careful driver, and guide their steps as they explore. Let Your angels encamp around them, and let Your peace guard their hearts. We ask for smooth travels, good health, and divine appointments along the way.

We also lift up her mother and sister. Lord, be their strength and their shield. Give her sister wisdom and patience as she cares for their mother, and let Your comfort fill their home. Ease any anxiety our sister may feel about being away, and remind her that You are always with her mother, just as You are with her.

Finally, Lord, we pray that this trip would be a time of spiritual refreshing for all who go. May they seek You in the beauty of Your creation, in the fellowship of family, and in the quiet moments of reflection. Let their conversations be filled with praise, and let their hearts be turned toward You. May they return home with a deeper love for You and a renewed sense of Your calling on their lives.

We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and our Redeemer. Amen.
