Prayer for Marriage

Please pray for my marriage. Please pray that my husband will be more patient, kind, and comforting with me when I'm feeling anxious.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage in prayer. Father God, we thank You for the sacred covenant of marriage, which You established from the very beginning as a reflection of Your love for Your people. We read in Genesis 2:24, "Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh." This union is holy, and we ask that You strengthen it according to Your will.

Lord, we pray specifically for this husband, that You would soften his heart and fill him with Your Spirit. May he grow in the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). We ask that You grant him the patience and kindness his wife needs, especially in moments when anxiety weighs heavily upon her. Help him to be a source of comfort, as You are our ultimate Comforter (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Teach him to listen with empathy, speak with gentleness, and act with the love that You have so freely given to us.

We also lift up this wife, Lord. Anxiety can be overwhelming, and we ask that You wrap Your arms around her, calming her heart and mind. Remind her of Your promises, such as in Philippians 4:6-7: "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." May she find her peace in You, and may her husband be a vessel of Your peace in her life.

Father, we also rebuke any spirit of division, impatience, or unkindness that may be at work in this marriage. We declare that this union is covered by the blood of Jesus and that no weapon formed against it shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We pray against any distractions, temptations, or worldly influences that seek to pull this couple apart. Instead, draw them closer to You and to one another.

Lord, we ask that You remind this couple of the vows they made before You. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and we pray that they would honor it as such. Help them to prioritize their relationship with You and with each other, seeking Your wisdom in all things. May their home be a place of love, grace, and mutual respect, where Your presence is felt and Your name is glorified.

We also encourage this wife to continue praying for her husband, even when it feels difficult. Prayer is powerful and effective (James 5:16), and we believe that as she lifts him up to You, You will move in his heart. Remind her that her role as his helpmate is valuable and that her words and actions can be a blessing to him.

Lastly, we want to emphasize the importance of keeping Christ at the center of this marriage. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and it is only by His name that we are saved (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). We pray that both this husband and wife would grow in their relationship with You, seeking Your will above all else. May their marriage be a testimony to Your love and faithfulness, drawing others to You.

Heavenly Father, we commit this marriage into Your hands. Strengthen their bond, heal any wounds, and fill their home with Your peace. May they continue to grow together in love, faith, and unity, all for Your glory. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
