We hear your heart’s longing and the hope that stirs within you as you think of this man. It is natural to desire companionship and to wonder if someone might be the one God has prepared for you, but we must always align our desires with His Word and His timing. The feelings you describe, this consuming anticipation, can be both beautiful and dangerous if not surrendered to the Lord. Proverbs 4:23 warns us, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life." When our thoughts are fixed on what might be rather than what is in God’s will, we risk opening the door to anxiety, distraction, and even idolatry, where our hope is placed in a person rather than in Christ alone.
First, we must examine the foundation of your hope. Is it rooted in the certainty of God’s promises, or is it built on the shifting sands of emotion and circumstance? Jeremiah 17:7-8 says, "Blessed is the man who trusts in Yahweh, and whose confidence is in Yahweh. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat comes, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit." If this man is truly meant to be your husband, God will confirm it in His time and in His way, not through restless waiting or wishful thinking, but through peace, wisdom, and the counsel of His Word and His people. Until then, we must guard our hearts from becoming entangled in what could be and instead focus on what is, God’s faithfulness to complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6).
We also want to gently address the nature of your longing. While it is good to desire marriage, we must be cautious not to allow that desire to become an idol. When we say, "I have this insane feeling that we’ll end up together," we must ask: Is this feeling from the Holy Spirit, or is it the flesh craving fulfillment? 1 John 4:1 instructs us, "Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." The enemy often disguises counterfeit hopes as "destiny" to lead us away from God’s best. If this man is not pursuing you, if he has not expressed godly interest or initiated contact in a way that honors both you and the Lord, then we must consider whether this is a distraction rather than a divine appointment.
If this man is not meant to be your husband, we pray that God would indeed remove him from your mind, not as a cruel act, but as an act of mercy. Psalm 139:23-24 says, "Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way." Sometimes, the Lord allows us to fixate on what is not His will so that we might recognize our need for Him to redirect our affections. We must be willing to surrender this longing, trusting that God’s plans for you are far greater than anything you could imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
Now, let us pray together in the name of Jesus, who alone can satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that are tender and hopeful, yet also aware of the snares that can entangle our desires. Lord, we lift up this sister to You, asking that You would be her first love, her greatest joy, and her unshakable peace. Father, if this man is not the husband You have prepared for her, we ask that You would remove him from her thoughts and replace her longing with a holy contentment in You. Help her to trust in Your timing and Your goodness, knowing that You withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11).
If this man is part of Your plan for her life, we ask that You would make it unmistakably clear, not through fleeting emotions, but through Your Word, Your peace, and the godly counsel of Your people. Give her patience to wait on You, wisdom to discern Your will, and the courage to surrender her desires to Your perfect plan. Guard her heart from idolatry, Lord, and help her to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, knowing that all these things will be added to her (Matthew 6:33).
We rebuke any spirit of anxiety, obsession, or false hope that would seek to distract her from Your purpose for her life. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, that she may walk in the fruit of patience, self-control, and trust. Remind her, Lord, that her worth is found in You alone, and that You are preparing for her a spouse who will love her as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25). Until that day, may she find her fulfillment in You, her identity in Christ, and her joy in serving Your kingdom.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who alone can satisfy the deepest longings of our souls. Amen.
In the meantime, we encourage you to shift your focus from waiting for a message to walking in purpose. Instead of allowing this hope to consume your mind, use this season to draw closer to the Lord. Study His Word, serve in your church, and cultivate godly friendships that will sharpen and encourage you. Proverbs 31:10-11 describes a woman of noble character, whose worth is far above rubies: "Who can find a wife of noble character? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband trusts in her. He shall have no lack of gain." While you wait for God’s timing, prepare yourself to be the kind of wife who reflects Christ’s love, one who is rooted in faith, secure in her identity, and committed to godliness.
Remember, too, that marriage is not the ultimate goal of the Christian life, Christ is. Whether single or married, our joy, peace, and fulfillment are found in Him alone. As you surrender this desire to the Lord, ask Him to show you how He wants to use you right now, in this season. Perhaps He is preparing you for a ministry, a calling, or a deeper relationship with Him that you would have missed if your heart had been elsewhere. Trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28), even when the path is unclear.
Lastly, if you find yourself struggling with impatience or anxiety, bring those feelings to the Lord in prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." You are not alone in this waiting. The Lord sees you, He hears you, and He is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you. Keep your eyes on Him, and trust that His timing is perfect.

God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. Bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
