We hear your heart’s cry and lift this matter before the Lord with both compassion and truth. First, we must address the foundation of your request. Forgiveness is a gift from God, and it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we can approach the Father with our petitions. Jesus said, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"* (John 14:6). If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your heart to Him, for He alone can heal, restore, and guide your steps.
Now, regarding your desire for this man to return and marry you, we must examine this prayer through the lens of Scripture. Marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for His church—a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:22-33). If this relationship has been marked by sin, such as fornication (sexual intimacy outside of marriage), we must repent and seek God’s cleansing. The Bible warns, *"Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers"* (Hebrews 13:4). If this applies to your situation, we urge you to confess this before the Lord and turn away from it, trusting Him to purify your heart and intentions.
We also pray for wisdom and discernment for you. Is this man a believer who loves the Lord and seeks to honor Him? Scripture is clear that we are not to be *"unequally yoked with unbelievers"* (2 Corinthians 6:14). If he is not a follower of Christ, we must ask whether this relationship aligns with God’s will for your life. Even if he is a believer, we must seek the Lord’s guidance, for *"the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?"* (Jeremiah 17:9). Only God knows the true motives of the heart.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear sister to You, asking for Your mercy, grace, and wisdom to surround her. Lord, we ask that You would soften the heart of this man she loves, if it is Your will for them to be together. Father, we pray that he would seek You with his whole heart and that his desire would be to honor You in all things, including marriage.
Lord, we ask for forgiveness for any sin in this relationship—whether it be sexual immorality, idolatry of this man, or any other area where we have fallen short. Cleanse us, O God, and create in us a clean heart. Help us to walk in purity and holiness, trusting in Your perfect timing and plan.
Father, we pray for this sister’s heart. Comfort her in her loneliness and longing, but also fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help her to trust in You, knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). If this man is not the one You have for her, give her the strength to release him into Your hands and to wait patiently for the spouse You have prepared.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of fear, desperation, or ungodly attachment in this situation. We declare that Your will shall be done, and we trust in Your goodness and faithfulness. May this sister grow in her relationship with You, seeking You above all else, for You alone can satisfy the deepest longings of her heart.
We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
We encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in this season. Spend time in His Word, for *"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path"* (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with godly counsel—believers who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. And remember, *"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart"* (Psalm 37:4). As you seek Him first, He will direct your steps. Trust in His timing, for it is always perfect.
