We hear your cry for help and stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting up your burden of financial struggle and the weight of past mistakes. The Word of God tells us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him" (James 1:5 WEB). You have taken the first step by seeking the Lord’s wisdom, and we rejoice in that.
First, we must address the reality of sin and its consequences. Financial mismanagement, debt, or dishonesty in money matters can indeed become a snare, as Scripture warns: "The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender" (Proverbs 22:7 WEB). But we serve a God who is rich in mercy and forgiveness. Confess any unrepentant sin, whether it be greed, dishonesty, or reckless stewardship, and receive the cleansing that comes through the blood of Jesus Christ. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB). There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), but there must be a turning away from sin and a commitment to walk in obedience.
Now, let us pray together for your financial restoration and wisdom:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who paid the ultimate price for our redemption, including the freedom from the bondage of financial sin. Lord, we lift up this dear one who is overwhelmed by the consequences of past financial mistakes. You see their heart, their repentance, and their desire to walk in Your ways. We ask that You would break every chain of debt, shame, and fear that the enemy has used to keep them in bondage. Your Word declares, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want" (Psalm 23:1 WEB). We claim that promise over their life today.
Father, grant them divine wisdom to manage what You entrust to them. Teach them to number their days and to steward their resources with integrity and diligence. "Honor the Lord with your substance, and with the first fruits of all your increase: so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine" (Proverbs 3:9-10 WEB). May they learn to give generously, save wisely, and spend responsibly, all for Your glory.
We rebuke the spirit of poverty and lack in Jesus’ name. We declare that this one is not cursed but blessed, for "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us" (Galatians 3:13 WEB). We speak abundance, provision, and favor over their life. Open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it (Malachi 3:10). Provide opportunities for them to increase their income, whether through employment, entrepreneurship, or other godly means. Give them creativity and favor in the eyes of those who can help them.
Lord, we also pray for a spirit of contentment to guard their heart. "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out. But having food and clothing, we will be content with that" (1 Timothy 6:6-8 WEB). Help them to trust in Your provision and not in the fleeting promises of this world. May they seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, knowing that all these things will be added to them (Matthew 6:33).
We stand against any schemes of the enemy designed to keep them in financial bondage. We break every generational curse of poverty or poor stewardship in the name of Jesus. We declare that they are a new creation in Christ, and old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). From this day forward, may they walk in the freedom and abundance that Christ died to give them.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would use their testimony of financial restoration to bring glory to Your name. May others see Your faithfulness and be drawn to You. Equip them to be a light in their workplace, their community, and their family, showing what it means to trust in You with all their heart and lean not on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

The burden of past sin can indeed follow a man like a shadow at evening, long and cold, yet the warmth of God's mercy can break through. You are overwhelmed because you feel the weight of your own doing, and that is a mark not of death but of life, for the dead feel nothing. Your cry for wisdom and direction is a prayer that heaven delights to answer, for our God gives liberally and upbraideth not.
But take care that your repentance is of that holy sort which gives God glory and not merely a carnal regret that sin has brought you into a strait. True repentance does not merely weep over consequences; it abhors the sin because it is against so good a God. This is repentance that needeth not to be repented of, a rainbow made of tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His finished work. Have you such a repentance? One that leads you to look wholly out of self to Christ? Then be of good cheer, for the Lord does not drive you to it by the lash, but leads you by His goodness. Every mercy you still enjoy, every breath you draw, is a fresh argument that His goodness would lead you to repentance.
You ask for financial wisdom. Remember that wisdom is not merely knowing what is right, but doing it. A practical repentance yields works meet for repentance. Does your repentance last, or is it a fleeting shower on sun-baked ground? The man who truly repents sets his house in order: he makes restitution where he can, he shuns the old paths of folly, he lives by honest labour, and he carries his own burden without casting it upon another. Yet in carrying it, he finds that Christ's yoke is easy and His burden is light. Cast the heavy burden of your sin upon the Lord, He alone can bear that, and then take up the lighter burden of daily duty in His strength.

The same grace that pardons also teaches us to deny ungodliness and to live soberly. The Lord will guide you in practical steps if you wait upon Him. Begin this very day: make no provision for the flesh, keep clear accounts, owe no man anything but love, and trust the Lord to supply your needs. You see your past financial sins, and you are overwhelmed. That is a mercy, for the beam in your own eye is now visible to you, and the long-suffering of God has not swept you away but grants you space for repentance. Do not, then, simply ask for wisdom as the world gives, for that wisdom is folly and ends with this life. True wisdom from above is to know that you have wronged and to turn from it with a changed life.
As you once made your members servants to covetousness, now mortify them; let the hands that once grasped now be open in alms. He who knows he has been forgiven much, loves much. Therefore, use the time that remains to you, redeeming it, for the days are evil. Let your past debts be a constant goad to cling to nothing here, to despise wealth which is worthy of no estimation, and to lay up treasure in heaven by showing mercy to the poor.
This is the wisdom spoken among the perfect: to consider the present life as nothing, and to know that Christ lives in you when no action of yours is done apart from His will. So seek not merely direction for earthly accounts, but the wisdom that makes you wise unto salvation, which is almsgiving, lowliness of mind, and the fear of God. For what is more foolish than to be anxious over money and careless for the soul? You have been wounded by your own folly; now let the medicine of repentance heal you, and walk wisely toward those outside, owing no one anything but love.
