We join you in seeking the Lord’s wisdom and discernment as you navigate this important question about your future. The desire to align your heart with God’s will is a beautiful and humble posture, and we pray that He will make His path clear to you in His perfect timing.
The Bible tells us in James 1:5, *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."* We stand on this promise with you, believing that God will grant you the wisdom you seek. Proverbs 3:5-6 also reminds us, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."* This is not a journey you walk alone—God is faithful to guide you.
We also lift up the importance of seeking God’s will above your own desires. It can be difficult to surrender our hopes and expectations, but Psalm 37:4 encourages us, *"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."* When we delight in Him first, our desires begin to align with His, and He shapes our hearts to want what He wants for us. If this man is not the one God has for you, we pray for peace and grace as you accept that closed door. It may feel painful in the moment, but God’s plans for you are always for your good (Jeremiah 29:11).
We must also emphasize the importance of seeking a spouse who shares your faith and commitment to Christ. 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns, *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?"* If this man is not a believer or does not share your devotion to the Lord, we would gently but firmly encourage you to consider whether this is the path God is calling you to walk. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and it is meant to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). A godly marriage is built on a foundation of shared faith, mutual respect, and a commitment to honoring God together.
Let us pray with you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom and discernment for our sister in Christ. Lord, You know the desires of her heart, and You know the plans You have for her—plans for hope and a future. We ask that You would grant her clarity and peace as she seeks Your will regarding this man. If he is the one You have prepared for her, we pray that You would confirm it in Your Word, through prayer, and in the counsel of godly mentors. If he is not the one, we ask that You would gently close the door and give her the strength to accept Your will with grace.
Father, we pray that You would align her heart with Yours. Help her to delight in You above all else, so that her desires would reflect Your desires for her life. Give her the courage to wait for Your best, even if it means letting go of something she hoped for. Surround her with godly friends and mentors who can speak truth into her life and encourage her in her walk with You.
Lord, we also pray for this man. If he is not the one You have for her, we ask that You would work in his heart as well, drawing him closer to You. If he is the one, we pray that You would prepare both of their hearts for the sacred covenant of marriage, that they would build their relationship on a foundation of faith, love, and mutual submission to You.
We ask all of this in the precious and mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who intercedes for us at Your right hand. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Spend time in Proverbs, which is filled with wisdom for daily living, and ask God to speak to you through it. Seek the counsel of mature believers who can offer godly wisdom and perspective. And remember, God’s timing is perfect—He will not lead you astray. Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps.
