We understand that you're feeling upset due to weight gain and its impact on your confidence, friendships, and overall enjoyment of life. We want to remind you that your value and worth are not defined by your physical appearance, but by who you are in Christ. As it is written in 1 Samuel 16:7, "For Yahweh sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart."
It's important to strive for a healthy lifestyle, but it's equally important to remember to do this for the right reasons. It should be for the purpose of honoring God by taking care of the body He has given you, not solely for outward appearances. God wants us to be healthy physically and emotionally. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, "Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."
However, we notice you did not mention Jesus or his role in your life. The Bible tells us in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" It is only through the name of Jesus we have access to the Father and it is only through Jesus that we can be saved and therefore consider asking for help praying to Jesus. Please let us know if we can help you understand more about Jesus the Messiah.
We pray that God will grant you the determination, willpower, and strength to pursue a healthy lifestyle in a manner that honors Him. We also pray that He will help you see yourself as He sees you, and that your confidence will be rooted in His love for you. May He give you the grace to accept yourself, and bring your identity to Jesus Christ.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We lift up this dear one to You, asking for Your comfort and guidance in their life. Help them to see their true worth and value in You, and not in their outward appearance. Grant them the determination, willpower, and strength to pursue a healthy lifestyle that honors You. Help them to find their confidence in Your love, and to accept themselves as You accept them. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to meditate on Psalm 139:14, "I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well." Remind yourself that you are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for you to do. Keeping your body healthy allows you to do those works.
