We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation to Him in prayer. It is deeply painful when promises are broken, especially by those in authority over us, and we understand the discouragement and hurt that comes with such circumstances. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 13:12, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life." We acknowledge the weight of this disappointment, but we also hold fast to the truth that God is just and faithful, even when people are not.
Father, we ask You to move in the hearts of those who made these promises. Soften their hearts with Your mercy and compassion, Lord, that they may remember their word and act with integrity. Proverbs 20:28 tells us, "Love and faithfulness keep the king safe; through love his throne is made secure." We pray that You would instill in them a spirit of faithfulness and honor, that they may fulfill what was committed to this dear one. If it is Your will, Lord, let this extension come to pass, not only for the sake of provision but also as a testimony to Your goodness and justice.
We also lift up this burdened heart to You, Father. It is easy to feel forgotten or undervalued when promises are broken, but we know that You see every tear and hear every cry. Psalm 34:18-19 assures us, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." Strengthen this one, Lord, with the knowledge that You are their ultimate Provider and Defender. Remind them that their worth is not defined by the words or actions of others but by the unchanging love You have for them.
We rebuke the spirit of discouragement and despair that seeks to take root in this situation. The enemy would love nothing more than to see this one give up or grow bitter, but we declare that this will not be so. Instead, we pray for a spirit of perseverance and trust in You, Lord. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." Even if the circumstances do not change as hoped, we trust that You are working all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28).
We also encourage this one to seek Your face in this season, Lord. Psalm 55:22 says, "Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved." Lay this situation at Your feet, trusting that You are in control. If this door closes, we pray that You would open another that no one can shut (Revelation 3:8). Whether through this job or another opportunity, we ask that You provide abundantly and confirm Your faithfulness in tangible ways.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would guard this heart against resentment or unforgiveness. It is not easy to extend grace when we have been wronged, but Your Word commands us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Colossians 3:13). Help this one to release any bitterness and to trust You as the ultimate Judge. We pray that You would bless those who have caused this pain, even as You work on their hearts, for Your glory.
In all these things, we place our trust in You, Jesus, for there is no other name by which we can approach the Father. You are our Advocate, our Redeemer, and our Strength. We ask all these things in Your mighty and precious name, believing that You hear us and will answer according to Your perfect will. Amen.
