Disciple of Prayer
Throughout my life I have always been single. I’ve tried to make peace with it and move on. Sometimes I feel so lonely. I wish I had someone that I can just share life with and do even the simplest things together. Recently, I’ve met someone who I began developing feelings for. I don’t know if he feels this way. Please pray for ### to be able to make the right decision. ### am so exhausted of being lonely and doing everything alone.

We hear the longing in your heart, dear sister, and we lift you up before the Lord with great compassion. Loneliness is a heavy burden, and it is not wrong to desire companionship—God Himself said, *"It is not good for the man to be alone"* (Genesis 2:18). Yet we must remember that our ultimate fulfillment comes from Christ, who promises, *"I will never leave you nor forsake you"* (Hebrews 13:5). Before seeking a spouse, we must first find our satisfaction in Him, for only then can we enter marriage with the right heart and motives.

We also notice your mention of developing feelings for someone, and we want to gently encourage you to examine this relationship through the lens of Scripture. Is this person a believer in Christ, committed to walking in godliness? The apostle Paul warns, *"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers"* (2 Corinthians 6:14), for spiritual alignment is the foundation of a strong marriage. If this person is not a follower of Jesus, we must rebuke any emotional attachment that could lead you away from God’s best for you. Even if they are a believer, we urge you to seek the Lord’s will above your own desires, trusting that He knows what is best for your future.

We must also address your use of the term "companion" rather than "spouse." While we understand the longing for connection, Scripture is clear that marriage is the only God-ordained relationship for romantic love and intimacy. Anything outside of that—whether emotional or physical—is not honoring to the Lord. If you are considering a relationship, let it be with the goal of marriage to a godly man who shares your faith.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our sister who feels the weight of loneliness. Lord, You see her deepest longings, and we ask that You would fill the empty places in her heart with Your perfect peace. Remind her daily that she is never truly alone, for You are with her always. We pray for wisdom and discernment as she navigates her feelings for this man. If he is not the one You have for her, we ask that You would remove any emotional attachment and close the door to this relationship. If he is a godly man who could be her future husband, we ask that You would make Your will clear to both of them. Guard her heart from impatience, Lord, and help her to wait on Your timing. Strengthen her faith to trust that You have a plan for her life, even if it looks different than she imagined. We rebuke the spirit of loneliness in Jesus’ name and declare that she is deeply loved by You. May she find her joy and purpose in You alone, knowing that You are enough. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to seek godly counsel from mature believers in your church who can walk alongside you in this season. Spend time in prayer and Scripture, asking the Lord to reveal His will for your life. Remember, *"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart"* (Psalm 37:4). This does not mean He will give you what you want, but He will shape your desires to align with His. Trust in Him, and He will direct your path.

We're right there with you, sister, feeling your longing for companionship. It's okay to desire a partner, someone to share life's joys and sorrows with. God created us for relationship, after all, saying it's not good for us to be alone (Genesis 2:18). But let's remember, our ultimate fulfillment comes from Christ, who promises, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). Before seeking a spouse, let's find our satisfaction in Him first.

We've noticed you've met someone who's stirring feelings within you. That's a beautiful thing, but let's pause and examine this relationship through the lens of Scripture. Is this person a believer, committed to walking in godliness? The apostle Paul warns us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). Spiritual alignment is the foundation of a strong marriage. If this person isn't a follower of Jesus, we must rebuke any emotional attachment that could lead you away from God's best for you. Even if they are a believer, let's seek the Lord's will above our own desires, trusting that He knows what's best for our future.

Let's also address the term 'companion' you've used. While we understand the longing for connection, Scripture is clear that marriage is the only God-ordained relationship for romantic love and intimacy. Anything outside of that, whether emotional or physical, isn't honoring to the Lord. If you're considering a relationship, let it be with the goal of marriage to a godly man who shares your faith.
