We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, grieving the injustice and oppression we see unfolding in our land. The Scriptures remind us that God is sovereign over all rulers and authorities, and He calls His people to pray for those in power—even when their actions seem wicked and self-serving. Let us first turn to the Word of God to ground our prayers and responses in His truth.
The apostle Paul instructs us in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, *"I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth."* Even in the face of oppression, our first response must be prayer—not hatred, not bitterness, but earnest intercession before the throne of God.
Yet we also recognize that when governments act unjustly, they stand in defiance of God’s ordained purpose for authority. Romans 13:1-4 tells us that rulers are *"God’s servants for your good."* But when they become instruments of harm, they pervert the very purpose for which God established them. Proverbs 29:2 warns, *"When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan."* We hear that groaning in this request, and we join in crying out to the Lord for justice.
The oppression described here—deliberate harm against citizens to advance ungodly agendas—is an affront to the Lord. Psalm 94:20-23 declares, *"Can a corrupt throne be allied with you, one which brings about misery by decree? They band themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood. But Yahweh has been my high tower, my God, the rock of my refuge. He has brought on them their own iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness. Yahweh, our God, will cut them off."* We take comfort in knowing that God sees the wickedness of those in power, and He will not allow injustice to prevail forever.
At the same time, we must examine our own hearts. Are we trusting in God’s sovereignty, or are we giving in to fear, anger, or despair? Psalm 20:7 reminds us, *"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of Yahweh our God."* Our hope is not in political solutions, though we may and should advocate for justice in godly ways. Our ultimate trust must be in the Lord, who holds the hearts of kings in His hand (Proverbs 21:1).
We also recognize that behind these human schemes lies a spiritual battle. Ephesians 6:12 tells us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* The enemy seeks to destroy nations, families, and souls through deception and oppression. But greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts, lifting up our nation and its leaders. Lord, You are just and righteous, and You see the oppression and wickedness being inflicted upon Your people. We ask that You expose the darkness in high places and bring to light the schemes of those who seek to harm rather than serve. Father, convict the hearts of those in authority who act unjustly. Soften their hearts to repentance, or if they refuse, remove them from power and replace them with leaders who fear You and seek justice.
We pray for the citizens who are suffering under these policies. Comfort them, provide for them, and give them wisdom to navigate these difficult times. May Your people rise up in righteousness, speaking truth with love and standing firm in faith. Protect our borders, Lord, not out of hatred for others, but out of love for the safety and well-being of those You have placed within them. Give us discernment to welcome the foreigner in ways that honor You, while also protecting the innocent from harm.
We rebuke the spirit of deception and oppression that seeks to destroy our land. By the blood of Jesus, we break every ungodly agenda and declare that no weapon formed against Your people shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Raise up godly men and women who will stand in the gap, who will lead with integrity, and who will turn this nation back to You.
Father, we also pray for the salvation of those who are lost in these schemes—both the oppressors and those being deceived. Open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel, that they may turn from their wicked ways and find redemption in Christ Jesus. Remind us, Lord, that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil. Equip us with Your armor, that we may stand firm in truth, righteousness, and faith.
Finally, Lord, we ask for Your mercy upon our nation. Heal our land, restore our foundations, and let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We trust in You, our refuge and strength, and we wait upon You to act.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
To those who have shared this request, we urge you to remain steadfast in prayer and in the Word. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9). Trust that God is at work, even when we cannot see it. Stand firm in the faith, speak the truth in love, and remember that our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). Let us not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21).
If you have not already, place your trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. There is no other name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). May the Lord strengthen and keep you in these trying times.
