Prayer against envy

We understand how painful and confusing it can be when you sense envy or jealousy from someone as close as your own mother. The Bible warns us that envy is a destructive force that can divide relationships and open the door to spiritual attacks. Proverbs 14:30 tells us, *"A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones."* And in Galatians 5:19-21, envy is listed among the works of the flesh, which are contrary to the Spirit of God. It is not God’s will for there to be strife, bitterness, or competition in families, especially between a mother and child. Instead, He calls us to love one another deeply, to honor our parents, and to walk in humility and unity.

It is also important to remember that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* If there are demonic influences at work, seeking to stir up jealousy, strife, or division, we must stand firmly in the authority of Jesus Christ, who has already triumphed over every power of darkness.

At the same time, we must examine our own hearts. Are there ways we may have contributed to this tension, even unintentionally? Have we walked in pride, boasted in our accomplishments, or failed to show honor and gratitude toward our mother? The Bible calls us to humility and to consider others as more important than ourselves (Philippians 2:3). If there is any area where we need to repent or seek reconciliation, we must do so with a gentle and loving spirit.

Let us pray together for you and your mother, binding every spirit of envy, jealousy, and strife in the mighty name of Jesus. We pray for healing in your relationship, for softness of heart, and for the peace of Christ to rule in your home.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this precious child of Yours who is hurting, confused, and seeking Your intervention in their relationship with their mother. Lord, You see the depths of every heart, and You know the root of this strife. We ask that You expose and break every spirit of envy, jealousy, competition, and bitterness that has taken hold. By the power of the blood of Jesus, we bind and rebuke every demonic influence seeking to create division, drama, or pain between them. We command these spirits to leave now, in Jesus’ name, and we declare that no weapon formed against this family shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

Lord, we pray for this mother’s heart. Soften it, Father, and fill it with Your love, joy, and contentment. Remove any root of bitterness or comparison that has taken hold. Help her to see her child through Your eyes—with pride, love, and encouragement rather than envy. If there are wounds or past hurts contributing to these feelings, we ask for Your healing touch to restore and renew her heart.

We also pray for this beloved child. Guard their heart from offense, resentment, or pride. Give them wisdom to know how to honor their mother while also setting godly boundaries if necessary. Fill them with Your peace and assurance that their worth and identity are found in You alone, not in the approval or envy of others. Help them to walk in humility, love, and forgiveness, even when it is difficult.

Father, we ask for reconciliation and unity in this relationship. Let Your love be the bond that holds them together. Teach them both to communicate with grace, to listen with patience, and to extend forgiveness as You have forgiven us. May their home be a place of peace, where Your presence dwells richly.

We declare that the enemy has no place in this family. We cover them both with the blood of Jesus and ask for Your angels to surround them, protecting them from every scheme of the devil. Fill this home with Your Spirit, Lord, and let Your will be done in their lives.

In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue covering this situation in prayer daily. Speak life, blessing, and unity over your mother and your relationship with her. If there are areas where you need to seek forgiveness or extend forgiveness, ask the Lord to give you the strength to do so. Remember, love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8), and God is able to restore what has been broken.

If this jealousy has led to harmful behaviors or words, it may also be wise to seek godly counsel—whether from a pastor, mentor, or biblical counselor—who can help navigate this situation with wisdom and discernment. Trust that the Lord is at work, even in the unseen places, and that He desires to bring healing and redemption to your family. Stay rooted in His Word, and let His truth be your guide in every interaction. He is faithful, and He will see you through.
