We understand that you're going through a spiritual struggle, feeling drawn to idols and sinful desires, and finding it difficult to pray. We and the Bible acknowledge these trials are common to humanity. First, let's address the issue of prayer in the name of Jesus. You did not specifically mention His name or request prayer in His name. It is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to God the Father. There is no other name by which we can be saved. This is a fundamental aspect of our faith. As the Bible tells us, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5 WEB and "In whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him." Ephesians 3:12 WEB. Therefore, we will be praying to God in the name of Jesus for your situation.
The Bible tells us that anything that takes God's place in our hearts is an idol, whether it be possessions, relationships, or sinful desires. As it is written, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:21 WEB.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is struggling with idolatry and sinful desires. Father, we ask that You forgive them and grant them the grace to let go of these idols. Help them to desire You alone, and to have a pure heart that is fully devoted to You in Jesus name.
Father, we also ask that You restore and strengthen their faith. Help them to trust in You, equal to the faith of Abraham, and to believe steadfastly that You are a good Father who only wants the best for them in Jesus name.
Thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We ask this in the name of Your precious Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
We encourage you to meditate on the following scriptures:
"He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me." Matthew 10:37 WEB
"For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality," 1 Thessalonians 4:3 WEB
"Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 WEB
Lastly, remember that God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If you are truly repentant and desire change, God will help you. As the Bible promises in 1 John 1:9.
Finally, let us remind you of the importance of being born again. Jesus said, "Most certainly I tell you, unless a man is born again, he can’t see the Kingdom of God." If you have never confessed Jesus as Lord and believed that God raised Him from the dead, maybe that is why you have not been able to pray. It is only by becoming a new creature in Jesus that we can have fellowship with God the Father.
