We hear your heart, dear sister, and we join you in seeking the Lord’s wisdom and discernment in this matter. Your desire to honor God in your thoughts and actions is evident, and we pray that He will continue to guide you into all truth. The longing to understand His will is a beautiful thing, and we believe He is faithful to reveal it when we seek Him with a pure heart.
First, let us affirm that your reliance on Jesus is the right foundation. There is no other name by which we can approach the Father, for Scripture tells us, *"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5). It is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and it is His Spirit who gives us discernment. We encourage you to continue seeking Him in prayer, in His Word, and through godly counsel, for *"the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy"* (James 3:17).
The prompting you feel to "turn around" is something we should not dismiss lightly, for the Lord often speaks in gentle whispers (1 Kings 19:12). However, we must also test every spirit to see whether it is from God (1 John 4:1). Ask the Lord to confirm His leading through His Word and through circumstances that align with His character. If this man is meant to be a part of your life, let it be in a way that honors God—whether as a brother in Christ, a friend, or, if the Lord wills, a future spouse. But let us be clear: any relationship outside of marriage must be pure and above reproach. The Bible warns us, *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body"* (1 Corinthians 6:18). If there is any temptation toward emotional or physical intimacy outside of marriage, we must guard our hearts and flee from it.
We also want to gently address the weight of guilt you carry regarding whether you have made his life heavier. Scripture reminds us, *"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus"* (Romans 8:1). If you have wronged him, confess it to the Lord, and if necessary, to him as well, but do not let shame or regret paralyze you. The Lord is faithful to forgive and restore (1 John 1:9). If your conscience is clear, then trust that the Lord is working all things together for good (Romans 8:28).
Now, let us lift this man before the Lord in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, asking for Your wisdom and discernment for our sister. Lord, You know the depths of her heart, and You see the sincerity of her desire to follow You. We ask that You would speak clearly to her, removing any confusion or doubt. If this man is to be a part of her life, we pray that You would prepare both of their hearts in a way that honors You. If not, we ask that You would close the door gently and lead her in another direction.
Father, we lift this man before You. Bless him with Your love, peace, kindness, and grace. Guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus. If there is any heaviness or burden he carries, we ask that You would lift it from him and replace it with Your joy and peace. Give him wisdom and clarity in his decisions, and let him walk in the fullness of Your will.
Lord, if You desire for them to meet, we pray for a peaceful and healing encounter. Let Your love and truth be evident in their interaction. May any misunderstandings be cleared, and may Your Spirit bring reconciliation and understanding where it is needed. Protect them both from any temptation or distraction that would lead them away from You.
Father, we rebuke any spirit of confusion, fear, or ungodly attachment in this situation. We declare that Your will shall be done, and that Your name will be glorified. Help our sister to trust in You completely, knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose.
We pray all these things in the precious name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Amen.
Dear sister, continue to seek the Lord with all your heart. Spend time in His Word, for *"Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path"* (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with godly counsel, and do not rush ahead of the Lord. If this man is meant to be your husband, the Lord will make it clear in His perfect timing. Until then, trust in Him, and let your heart find its rest in His promises. *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight"* (Proverbs 3:5-6).
