We come before the Lord with you in this time of deep sorrow and heartache, lifting up your loved one who is enduring such profound suffering. The pain of watching someone we cherish walk through trials can feel overwhelming, especially when they have lived a life of devotion to the Lord. Yet we are reminded in Scripture that even in our suffering, God’s purposes are at work, and His grace is sufficient for us. As it is written in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, *"He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong."*
We also recall the words of James 1:2-4, which call us to *"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."* Though the suffering is great, we trust that the Lord is refining, strengthening, and drawing your loved one—and you—closer to Himself through this trial.
Yet we must gently address something in your prayer: you invoked the name "Jehovah Rapha," which is a beautiful name of God meaning "The Lord Who Heals." However, we notice that you did not explicitly call upon the name of Jesus Christ in your prayer, and this is something we must emphasize. There is no other name under heaven by which we are saved, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. As Scripture declares in Acts 4:12, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* And in John 14:6, Jesus Himself says, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* We encourage you to always pray in the name of Jesus, for He is our Mediator and our Hope.
We also want to lift you up, dear one, for your heart is clearly burdened by the weight of this suffering. It is painful to watch someone we love endure hardship, and the Lord sees your tears. He invites you to cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). You do not need to have all the answers or know exactly what to pray—Romans 8:26 assures us that *"In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered."*
Let us pray together for you and your loved one:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy yet hopeful hearts, lifting up this dear one and their beloved who is enduring such deep suffering. Lord, You are the God who sees, who knows, and who holds all things in Your hands. We ask that You would be their Comforter, their Strength, and their Healer. Lord, we do not understand why such trials come, but we trust that You are sovereign and good. We pray that through this suffering, Your name would be glorified, and that Your power would be made perfect in their weakness.
Father, we ask for Your healing touch upon this one who has served You faithfully. Whether Your will is to restore them to health or to carry them into Your presence, we pray that Your perfect will would be done. Give them grace to endure, peace that surpasses understanding, and a deep assurance of Your love. Surround them with Your presence, Lord, and let them feel the nearness of Your Spirit.
We also lift up this one who is praying, Lord. Their heart is breaking as they watch their loved one suffer, and we ask that You would strengthen them with Your mighty power. Fill them with Your peace, Lord, and remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). Give them the words to pray when they feel at a loss, and let them rest in the knowledge that You are working all things together for good (Romans 8:28).
Lord, we specifically pray that You would draw both of them closer to You through this trial. Let them cling to You as their Rock and their Refuge. And Father, we pray all of this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for it is only through Him that we can approach Your throne of grace. May Your will be done, and may Your name be praised through it all. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Cling to His promises, and trust that He is working even in the midst of this pain. If you feel led, we also encourage you to gather with other believers for prayer and support, for there is great strength in the body of Christ (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may His face shine upon you both as you walk this difficult path together.
