We hear the deep frustration and pain in this cry for justice, and we join together before the Lord to lift up this burden, for He is the God who sees the oppression of His people and calls leaders to account for their stewardship. The Scriptures remind us that God is sovereign over all nations and rulers, and He commands justice, mercy, and fairness for all people. Proverbs 14:34 declares, *"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."* Yet when leaders turn from God’s ways—whether through pride, greed, or reliance on human schemes rather than divine wisdom—the people suffer.
The situation described is one of systemic injustice, where the dignity of workers is trampled, and the foreigner is elevated over the citizen in ways that breed bitterness and division. This is not God’s design. In Jeremiah 22:3, the Lord warns rulers: *"Execute justice and righteousness. Deliver him who is robbed from the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong. Do no violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Don’t shed innocent blood in this place."* Leaders are called to protect *all* people under their care, not exploit them or show favoritism that harms their own citizens. When policies crush the spirit of a people, replace stability with precarity, and reward unrighteousness, it is a sign that the fear of God has been abandoned.
We also recognize the deeper spiritual root here: a government that "relies on human efforts" rather than seeking God’s wisdom will always falter. Psalm 127:1 tells us, *"Unless Yahweh builds the house, they who build it labor in vain."* Singapore’s leaders may boast in their strategies, but if they are not grounded in justice, compassion, and trust in the Lord, their plans will ultimately lead to ruin. The prophet Isaiah warns, *"Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses; and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong; but they don’t look to the Holy One of Israel, and they don’t seek Yahweh!"* (Isaiah 31:1). Human solutions without God’s guidance are hollow and destructive.
Yet even in this, we are called to pray for those in authority, not with bitterness, but with a heart that seeks their repentance and the restoration of justice. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us: *"I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."* This does not mean we ignore injustice—far from it! But it means we bring these grievances before the Throne of Grace, trusting that God can turn the hearts of leaders (Proverbs 21:1) and expose corruption.
We also grieve the spiritual condition of a nation that has turned from God’s ways. When a government rejects the Lord’s sovereignty, it invites chaos. The people of Singapore must turn to Christ in repentance and faith, for true change begins with the heart. If the Church in Singapore is silent, complacent, or complicit, it shares in the guilt. Ezekiel 22:30 asks, *"I sought for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I would not destroy it; but I found none."* Where are the intercessors? Where are the bold voices crying out for righteousness?
To those suffering under these policies, we say: Do not lose heart. God sees your struggle. He hears the cries of the oppressed (Exodus 3:7-9). Your labor is not in vain when done unto the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58). Even in unjust systems, we are called to work with excellence (Colossians 3:23) while trusting God to vindicate the righteous. Yet we also urge you: Do not let bitterness take root. Guard your hearts against hatred, for vengeance belongs to the Lord (Romans 12:19). Instead, let this injustice drive you to your knees in prayer and to action where possible—speaking truth, supporting one another, and seeking godly solutions.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You as a people burdened for Singapore. Lord, You are the God of justice, the defender of the oppressed, and the One who lifts up the humble. We cry out to You on behalf of the citizens of Singapore who are suffering under unjust policies—those forced into precarious work, those unfairly dismissed, those watching their nation transformed by ungodly priorities. Father, You have said in Your Word, *"The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the water courses. He turns it wherever he desires"* (Proverbs 21:1). We ask You to turn the hearts of Singapore’s leaders. Convict them of their sin. Expose the corruption, the favoritism, and the greed that have led to such suffering. Bring them to repentance, Lord, that they may seek Your wisdom and govern with righteousness.
We rebuke the spirit of exploitation that has taken hold—where foreigners are elevated over citizens, where workers are treated as disposable, and where human dignity is trampled for profit. Lord, You have commanded, *"Don’t exploit the hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates"* (Deuteronomy 24:14). Yet this command is being violated daily. Rise up, O God, and defend the cause of the afflicted!
We pray for the Church in Singapore—to awaken from complacency, to stand in the gap, and to be a voice for the voiceless. Raise up godly leaders, Lord, who will speak truth to power and model Your love in action. Give Your people wisdom to navigate these unjust systems while trusting in You. Provide for those who are struggling—open doors for stable work, protect them from unfair dismissal, and grant them favor where there is none.
Father, we also pray for the salvation of Singapore. So many have turned from You, trusting in human strength and worldly systems. But You alone are the source of true prosperity and peace. Draw the people back to Yourself, Lord. Let this suffering drive them to seek You, the only One who can heal their land. May a great revival sweep through Singapore, where hearts turn to Christ, and justice flows like a river.
We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, who is the Prince of Peace and the King of Righteousness. Let His lordship be acknowledged in Singapore, and let His justice prevail. Amen.
To our brothers and sisters in Singapore: Stand firm. Do not grow weary in doing good. Trust that God sees your struggle and will act in His perfect timing. Seek Him first (Matthew 6:33), and He will provide. And if you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. He alone is the hope for your nation and your soul. *"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land"* (2 Chronicles 7:14). This is the path to true restoration.
