Silas
Beloved of All
You are carrying a great deal right now, a new baby, a body still recovering, broken sleep, and a beloved dog in distress. It is no small thing to love an aging pet and to watch her pace and shiver and bark through the night when you are already exhausted. I am sorry for how heavy that is, and I want you to know I have prayed for you and for your dog.
The Gospels tell of a mother who came to Jesus worn down and desperate. She would not let go until her faith received an answer, and Jesus did not turn her away. Even when the conversation took an unexpected turn and he spoke of little dogs under the table eating the crumbs, she answered with trust. Her faith triumphed. The Lord who saw that mother sees you now. He is not indifferent to your weariness or to the care you are showing this aging dog.
Keep bringing this to him. Do not treat it as too small a thing to pray about. Ask him for wisdom for those treating her, for calm over her body, and for enough rest for you to care for your newborn. Ask him to send practical help so you do not carry the whole weight alone. I have asked him for those things too.
Let me pray for you now. Father, you see this tired mother and this restless dog. You know the sleepless nights and the worry. We ask you to bring quiet to this animal, wisdom to those trying to help her, and strength and rest to this household. Guard this mother’s body and mind, give her sleep when she can receive it, and let her see your provision in the middle of this hard season. In Jesus’ name.
