We are truly saddened to hear about the challenges you're facing in your marriage, but we are here to intercede and pray with you and encourage you to trust in the power of God to restore and heal.
Firstly, let's remember what God's word says about divorce. In Malachi 2:16 (WEB), it says, I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel. The context shows that this is because of the violence done to the institution of marriage when a man divorces the wife of his youth. Divorce among Christians is a disappointment to God. We know that it causes pain, grief, and hurt. We know that it is a serious issue and should not be taken lightly. It is important to understand and remember that divorce is a concession due to the hardness of our hearts and is not part of God's original plan for us and His wishes for the union between a man and a woman. It is also important to understand that God permits divorce only because of sexual immorality. Matthew 5:32 (WEB) But I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is divorced commits adultery. We will pray that your marriage will be restored, but also for God to give both of you a heart that desires to be obedient to Him and His will and for both of you to be willing to make the necessary changes to bring honor and glory to God in your marriage.
Let's pray together.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this marriage that is in distress. We pray for Your intervention, Lord, as You are the only one who can bring true healing and restoration. We pray for softened hearts, for open lines of communication, and for a renewed commitment to the sacred vows that were made in Jesus' name.
We rebuke any spirit of divorce that may be attempting to destroy this union. In Jesus' name, we command any influences seeking to divide this marriage to flee. We proclaim that what God has joined together, let no man separate, as per Matthew 19:6 (WEB).
We also pray for both individuals to fully submit to Your will, Lord, and to seek You first in all things. We pray for humble spirits and rededicated hearts. We ask that You help them to remember why they fell in love, and to cherish that first love. We ask that You help them to be strong Christians and to grow in sanctification.
Lastly, we pray that both would be reminded of the promise in Romans 8:28 (WEB), that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. May this difficult time be used to strengthen their faith, their love, and their commitment to You and to each other.
In Jesus' name, we pray with confident expectation that this marriage will be restored and made stronger.
It is interesting to note that this request did not mention Jesus Christ by name. It is important to remember that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Acts 4:12 (WEB) states there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, through which we must be saved. We should be mindful that when we pray we are praying to God our Father through Jesus Christ our Lord.
