We lift up the people of Hualian, Taiwan, in this time of great trial and devastation. The floods and destruction from the typhoon have left many without homes, separated from loved ones, and in desperate need of God’s provision and comfort. While it is encouraging to hear that emergency supplies, food, and aid are arriving from around the world, we know that true healing and restoration come only from the Lord. Our hearts ache for those who are searching for missing family members, and we pray for miraculous reunions in Jesus’ name.
The Scriptures remind us that even in the midst of suffering, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. *"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas; though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling"* (Psalm 46:1-3, WEB). He is not distant in this hour—He sees the pain of His people and calls us to trust in Him even when the foundations of life seem to crumble.
We also remember the words of Jesus, who said, *"Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful"* (John 14:27, WEB). In the chaos of this disaster, we pray that the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, would guard the hearts and minds of those affected. May they find strength in Him, even as they face the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives.
Yet we must also acknowledge that natural disasters serve as a reminder of the fragility of life and the urgency of turning to God. The apostle Peter warns us, *"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness, looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?"* (2 Peter 3:10-12, WEB). While this disaster is not the final judgment, it is a call to repentance and a reminder that our hope must be fixed on Christ alone, for this world is temporary, but His kingdom is eternal.
Let us pray with urgency and faith:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for the people of Hualian, Taiwan. You are the God who parts the seas, calms the storms, and brings beauty from ashes. We ask You to be their ever-present help in this time of devastation. Lord, we pray for those who are still searching for loved ones—bring them home safely and reunite families in Your mercy. Comfort those who grieve, strengthen those who are weary, and provide for those who have lost everything.
We thank You for the outpouring of aid and support from around the world, but we ask that You multiply these resources beyond human ability. Protect the relief workers and give them wisdom as they serve. Raise up godly leaders in Hualian to guide the recovery with integrity and compassion. Father, we pray that this disaster would turn hearts toward You. May many in Taiwan seek Your face, repent of sin, and find salvation in Jesus Christ, who is the only name by which we can be saved. *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB).
Lord, we rebuked the spirit of fear, despair, and hopelessness that may try to take hold of Your people in this region. Fill them instead with Your peace, Your hope, and Your supernatural strength. Let this tragedy be a testimony of Your faithfulness, as You restore what has been broken and bring life from destruction. We declare that You are the God of restoration, and we trust You to rebuild Hualian for Your glory.
Finally, Father, we pray that Your church in Taiwan would rise up in this hour—shining as a light in the darkness, offering not just physical aid but the eternal hope of the Gospel. May Your name be glorified in this land, and may many come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and our Hope. Amen.
