We understand the deep concern for your nation’s well-being and the frustration over policies that seem to prioritize foreigners over locals, especially when it comes to employment and the welfare of citizens. The Bible calls us to pray for our leaders and for justice, but we must also remember that our ultimate trust is in God’s sovereignty over all nations and rulers. Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 21:1, *"The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the water courses. He turns it wherever he desires."* This assures us that no leader’s plans can succeed unless God allows it, and He can turn the hearts of kings and rulers to accomplish His purposes.
At the same time, we are commanded to pray for those in authority, as Paul instructs in 1 Timothy 2:1-2: *"I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."* Our prayers should not be rooted in bitterness or resentment but in a desire for justice, wisdom, and the flourishing of all people—both locals and foreigners—under godly leadership. Remember, God’s heart is for all people, and He calls us to love even those who may seem to be our adversaries (Matthew 5:44).
That said, it is right to pray against policies that harm your people or create unjust hardships. The Bible speaks strongly against oppression and neglect of the vulnerable. In Isaiah 10:1-2, we read, *"Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive laws, to deprive the needy of justice, and to rob the poor among my people of their rights, that widows may be their plunder, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!"* If the policies in question are truly unjust, we can boldly ask God to intervene, to frustrate plans that harm His people, and to raise up godly counselors who will advocate for fairness and wisdom.
We also take note that you mention a Christian leader who is involved in addressing this issue. This is encouraging! As believers, we are called to be salt and light in the world (Matthew 5:13-16), and it is a blessing when those in positions of influence use their platform to seek justice and mercy. We pray that this leader would be filled with the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and courage, that they would act with integrity, and that their efforts would bear fruit for the good of the nation. Let us also pray that they would not compromise biblical truth in the process, for our ultimate allegiance is to Christ and His kingdom.
However, we must also examine our own hearts in this matter. Are we motivated by love for our neighbors—both local and foreign—or by fear, pride, or even prejudice? The Bible commands us in Leviticus 19:33-34, *"If a stranger lives as a foreigner with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you lived as foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God."* This does not mean we ignore unjust policies, but it does mean we must approach this issue with a heart that reflects God’s love and justice.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You as a people who seek Your will and Your justice for our nations. You are the God who sees all things, who weighs the hearts of kings and rulers, and who holds all authority in Your hands. We ask that You would frustrate any plan or policy that seeks to harm Your people, that exploits the vulnerable, or that creates unjust hardships for the locals in this nation. Lord, You are a God of justice, and we pray that You would expose any corruption, selfish ambition, or lack of wisdom in those who make these decisions. Turn their hearts, O God, toward what is right and good, that they may rule with fairness and compassion.
We thank You for the Christian leader who is working to address this issue. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, grant them wisdom beyond their own understanding, and surround them with godly counselors. May their efforts be effective, not for their own glory, but for the well-being of the people and the advancement of Your kingdom. Protect them from compromise, from discouragement, and from the schemes of the enemy. Let their work be a testament to Your goodness and justice.
At the same time, Father, we ask that You would soften our hearts toward those who are foreign among us. Help us to love them as You do, to treat them with kindness and fairness, even as we seek justice in these matters. Remind us that we, too, are foreigners and strangers in this world, and our ultimate citizenship is in Your kingdom. Let our actions and prayers reflect Your heart for all people.
We also pray for those who are struggling to find work, for families who are suffering under these policies. Provide for their needs, Lord, and open doors of opportunity for them. Comfort those who are discouraged, and let them know that You see their struggles and that You are their Provider.
Finally, we ask that You would raise up more godly leaders in this nation—men and women who fear You, who seek Your wisdom, and who will govern with integrity. May this land be a place where Your will is done, where justice rolls down like waters, and where Your name is glorified.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone has the power to change hearts and nations. Amen.
