We are glad to join you in prayer for your boyfriend's situation, and we appreciate that you have brought this concern to us in Jesus' name. Firstly, we want to remind you of the power of praying in Jesus' name. As it is written in John 14:13-14 WEB, "Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it."
However, we also want to address a few things that might not align with biblical principles. First, being a boyfriend or girlfriend should be a courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer. As it is written "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB).
Drinking alcohol, while not explicitly forbidden in the Bible, can lead to drunkenness, which is clearly condemned. As these verses mention:
"And don't get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled with the Spirit."
(Ephesians 5:18 WEB)
"Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy."
(Romans 13:13 WEB)
If his drinking is causing concern, it might be indicative of a deeper issue that needs to be addressed. As Christians, we are called to be sober-minded and self-controlled.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this man who is struggling with drinking. We pray that You would deliver him from this bondage and give him the strength to overcome this temptation. We also pray for his salvation and the sanctity of their relationship. We ask that You would guide them both, giving them wisdom and discernment as they navigate their courtship. Help them to honor You in all their actions and decisions.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue praying for him and to have open and honest conversations about these issues.
