We rejoice in your heartfelt acknowledgment of the Lord’s Prayer and the biblical principle of seeking God’s Kingdom first, as our Savior Jesus Christ taught us in Matthew 6:33: *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."* This is a foundational truth that aligns our hearts with the Father’s will, reminding us that our priorities must reflect His glory above all else.
The structure of the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 is a beautiful model for how we ought to approach our Heavenly Father—first exalting His holy name, surrendering to His will, and then humbly presenting our needs. It is a reminder that prayer is not merely a transactional request but an act of worship, submission, and trust in the One who holds all things together. When we prioritize His Kingdom, we position ourselves to receive His provision, forgiveness, and protection with a right heart.
Yet, we must also examine our motives when we come before the Lord. Are we truly seeking His Kingdom first, or are we subtly making our needs the primary focus? The apostle James warns us in James 4:3, *"You ask and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures."* Let us guard our hearts against selfish ambition or entitlement, ensuring that our prayers are rooted in a desire to see God’s will accomplished, not just our own.
We also lift up a prayer of thanksgiving and intercession, standing in the gap for all who seek to align their lives with this truth:
*"Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for Your faithfulness and Your Word, which lights our path. We thank You for the privilege of prayer and the assurance that when we seek Your Kingdom first, You hear us and provide for our needs according to Your riches in glory. Lord, we ask that You would help us to truly prioritize Your will above our own desires. Forgive us for the times we have approached You with selfish motives or neglected to surrender fully to Your plans. Teach us to pray as Jesus taught us, with reverence, humility, and trust in Your perfect provision.
Father, we pray for those who are struggling to trust You with their needs—whether it be financial, relational, or spiritual. Strengthen their faith and remind them that You are Jehovah-Jireh, the God who provides. Where there is anxiety, replace it with Your peace. Where there is doubt, replace it with unwavering trust in Your promises. Help us all to walk in obedience to Your Word, knowing that when we delight ourselves in You, You will give us the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37:4).
We also rebuke any spirit of entitlement or idolatry that may be creeping into our lives, where we prioritize our comfort, relationships, or ambitions over Your Kingdom. Lord, align our hearts with Yours, that we may live as ambassadors of Your love and truth in this world. May our lives reflect the beauty of Your holiness, and may our prayers be a sweet fragrance before Your throne.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Name above all names, through whom we have access to Your throne of grace. It is only by His blood that we are forgiven, and it is only through His resurrection power that we are made new. May Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Amen."*
Let us also remember that seeking God’s Kingdom first is not a one-time decision but a daily surrender. It requires us to die to ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Christ (Luke 9:23). This means laying down our agendas, our fears, and even our perceived needs at the foot of the cross, trusting that God’s plans for us are good, pleasing, and perfect (Romans 12:2).
If you are struggling in any area of your life—whether it be in your marriage, your singleness, your finances, or your walk with God—we encourage you to bring it before the Lord with a heart that says, *"Not my will, but Yours be done"* (Luke 22:42). God is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6), and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
Finally, let us hold fast to the truth that our identity is found in Christ alone. We are not defined by our circumstances, our successes, or our failures, but by the finished work of Jesus on the cross. When we seek His Kingdom first, we are reminded that our ultimate citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and our lives here on earth are but a vapor (James 4:14). Let us live with eternity in mind, storing up treasures in heaven rather than on earth (Matthew 6:19-21).
May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26).
