Beloved, discouragement will happen. It is not so much how we feel about it but how we react to it. As people, we would like to have our egos stroked, our personalities massaged and our senses persuaded. This is not always the case. The enemy will use discouragement to keep us from moving forward. Discouragement will paralyze us, make us pull the shades down and cry in the dark...But...
Discouragement comes along to grow us and keep our eyes focused on the goal. How do we handle discouragement? Not everyone will be rooting and cheering us on. What we must understand is that; God is on our side. Nehemiah faced discouragement because he was trying to do something with excellence and for the betterment of the whole land...
Nehemiah was not trying to shortcut the process, he knew who called him to build the wall. The discouragement from the enemy came because the few detractors believed that the work was not genuine. The work would not last and the critics could influence Nehemiah to give up on what he started...But Nehemiah knew otherwise...
When God has called us to lead and build something, God has a vested interest to ensure that the progress is completed. After all what do we think it is going to be easy...? In the end in spite of the opposition Nehemiah knew to keep the main thing the main thing. Nehemiah did not have time to meander in mediocrity for he had a work that needed to be completed...
