We hear your desperate cry for help, and our hearts ache with you as you face this painful struggle with your son. The bond between a parent and child is sacred, and it is clear that you love him deeply. We come before the Lord together, lifting up your son and asking for His mighty intervention.
First, we must address the gravity of drug use. Scripture warns us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, it says, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Drug use defiles this temple and opens the door to spiritual bondage. We rebuke the grip of addiction in your son’s life in the name of Jesus Christ. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that abundance over your son’s life—freedom, restoration, and wholeness in Christ.
We also recognize that addiction often stems from deeper wounds—pain, emptiness, or a search for something to fill a void that only God can satisfy. In Jeremiah 2:13, the Lord says, "For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut themselves off to dig their own cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water." Your son may be trying to fill his heart with temporary fixes, but only the love of Christ can satisfy his soul. We pray that his eyes would be opened to the truth of the Gospel—that Jesus is the living water that will quench his thirst forever.
Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, interceding for this precious young man. We ask that You would break the chains of addiction in his life. Lord, we know that nothing is impossible for You (Luke 1:37), and we believe that You can set him free. Surround him with Your presence, Holy Spirit, and convict him of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8). Draw him back to You, Father, and let him experience the depth of Your love and grace.
We pray for wisdom and strength for his mother as she navigates this difficult season. Give her the words to speak life and truth into his heart, and the courage to set boundaries that reflect Your love and holiness. Help her to resist the temptation to enable his behavior out of fear or guilt, but instead to trust You with his future. Remind her that she is not alone—You are her refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1), and You will never leave her nor forsake her (Hebrews 13:5).
Lord, we ask that You would place godly mentors and believers in his path—people who will speak truth, pray for him, and model a life surrendered to You. Protect him from the influences that have led him astray, and open his eyes to the destructive path he is on. Soften his heart to receive correction and guidance, and let him see the hope that is found only in You.
We also pray for healing in your family. Addiction affects everyone, and there may be brokenness, fear, or resentment that needs Your touch. Restore relationships, Father, and let Your peace rule in their hearts (Colossians 3:15). Help them to forgive one another as You have forgiven them (Ephesians 4:32), and to walk in unity as they seek Your will together.
Finally, we declare that your son is not defined by his struggles. He is a child of God, created for a purpose, and redeemed by the blood of Jesus. We speak life over him—freedom from addiction, a renewed mind, and a heart that seeks after You. We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer and for the victory that is already won through Christ Jesus. We trust You to work all things together for good (Romans 8:28) and to bring beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3).
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
