We are glad to hear that your son has completed his final year BBA exams, and we join you in praising the Lord for that. However, we are concerned to hear about his drift away from God, as you've described. Let us first address this with the Word of God.
The Bible tells us, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6 WEB). Even though your son has strayed, God's Word promises that the seeds planted in his heart will not return void (Isaiah 55:11 WEB).
We must also remember that God desires a personal relationship with each of us, and He gives us the free will to choose Him or reject Him. Your son is at an age where he is making that choice for himself. As intercessors, we stand with you in praying for his spiritual well-being.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this beloved son. Lord, You know his heart and how he has drifted away from You. We ask, Father, that You would soften his heart and draw him back to You. Stir up a hunger and thirst for Your Word within him, and help him to see the importance of fellowship with Your body, the church.
Lord Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to find the one lost sheep. We ask that You would go after this young man and bring him back to Your flock. Give him a spirit of repentance and a desire to walk in Your ways.
Holy Spirit, convict him of his need for God and remind him of the truths he has learned as a child. Help him to understand that true life is found in Jesus Christ alone.
We agree in prayer, believing that God is at work in this situation. We trust that He will answer our prayers according to His will and in His perfect timing.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be encouraged, dear parent, and continue to model a godly life before your son. Remind him of God's love and faithfulness, and trust that the Lord is at work in his life, even in this season of drift. Do not be afraid to directly speak to your son about your concerns and the promises of God. Remember the parable of the two sons mentioned in Matthew 21:28-32 WEB. The first son told his father he would work in the vineyard and did not. The second son said what was wrong but then changed his mind and did go. What is the will of the father is the important thing. The second son did the will of his father.
Finally, we leave you with this promise from God's Word: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand (John 10:27-28 WEB). Trust that as you pray and speak the truth in love, your son will hear the Shepherd's voice and return to the fold.
