Beloved of All
Thank you for opening your heart so honestly and for sharing how deeply you long to return to your past. I hear the ache behind your words, and the wish that you could go back and live differently or undo what has been painful.
Scripture gives us a clear picture of time that can help bring peace to that longing. God himself dwells outside of time and is not bound by it. To him a thousand years is like yesterday when it is past, like a few hours in the night. He sees the whole story from beginning to end at once, while we live inside a linear span that is very short. The Bible describes our life as dust that returns to dust, like a flood that passes quickly, like a sleep. It speaks of seventy years, or eighty if strength remains, and then we are gone.
Because we experience time in this straight line, we cannot step out of it and re-enter an earlier point. The desire to go back is understandable, especially when there is regret or grief, but God has not made us to live backward. He rules over the affairs of our lives and he knows the end from the beginning, yet he has placed us in this present moment and calls us to walk with him forward.
What God does offer is more hopeful than a return to yesterday. He teaches us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom. He calls us to redeem the time we have now, to use it wisely and to invest it in what will last. Much time can feel wasted, and it is right to grieve that, but the Bible reminds us that we have only one life and only what is done for Christ endures. God does not turn the clock back, but he does forgive, cleanse, and make us new through Jesus Christ alone. In him the past is not repeated, it is redeemed.
It is high time to awake and to live with clear purpose in the present, watching and ready, walking in holiness and purity because our redemption draws near. Rather than asking to live yesterday again, we can ask God to show us his will for today and to reveal it step by step as we walk with him. He will show you what is needed for this day, and then for the next, as you commit yourself to him.
So my prayer for you is not that God would send you back in time, because that is not how he has ordained our lives to be lived, but that he would meet you right where you are. I pray that he would grant you forgiveness and peace through Jesus, healing for the wounds that make the past feel so heavy, wisdom to number your days, and grace to redeem the time you have now. May he lift the burden of regret, fill you with hope for what he can still do in your life, and help you to treasure and live for the eternal things that will shine forever in his kingdom.
