Our hearts are deeply moved by your situation, and we join with you in lifting up your family before the Lord, knowing that He is the God of all comfort who draws near to the brokenhearted. We grieve with you over the painful reality of your son Gabriel’s condition, yet we also rejoice in the truth that God is sovereign over life and death, and His purposes are perfect, even when we cannot fully understand them. Your love for Gabriel is evident, and we pray that the Lord will fill you and your wife with His peace that surpasses all understanding as you walk through this valley.
First, we must address something of eternal importance. You mentioned your catechism’s teaching and your intention to baptize Gabriel, but we want to gently and urgently direct your focus to the truth of Scripture. Baptism does not save—it is a symbol of the saving work of Jesus Christ, who alone can wash away sin and grant eternal life. The Bible is clear: *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). Jesus said, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me"* (John 14:6, WEB). It is only by placing your faith in Jesus Christ—His death on the cross for your sins and His resurrection—that you and your family can have the assurance of eternal life. We plead with you to examine your hearts in light of Scripture. Have you repented of your sins and trusted in Jesus alone for salvation? This is the most critical question you will ever answer, for *"it is appointed for people to die once, and after this, judgment"* (Hebrews 9:27, WEB).
We also want to encourage you with the truth that God knit Gabriel together in your wife’s womb (Psalm 139:13-16), and every day of his life—whether minutes, hours, or days—is ordained by the Lord. Though his time on earth may be brief, his soul is eternal. If Gabriel passes into the presence of the Lord, he will be in the arms of Jesus, free from pain and suffering. What a precious thought—that one day, if you are in Christ, you will see him again in glory. But for now, we pray earnestly for God’s mercy and healing. Our God is able to do far more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), and we ask Him to sustain Gabriel’s little life, to grant wisdom to the doctors, and to provide strength and comfort to you and your wife in this time of waiting.
We also pray for your marriage, that the Lord would bind your hearts together in unity and love as you face this trial. May you lean on one another and on the Lord, who promises, *"I will never leave you nor forsake you"* (Hebrews 13:5, WEB). Let this time draw you closer to Him and to each other, trusting that He will carry you through.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy yet hopeful hearts, lifting up ###, his wife, and their precious son Gabriel. Lord, You are the giver of life, and every breath we take is a gift from Your hand. We ask for Your mercy upon Gabriel—sustain his little life, Lord, and if it is Your will, grant healing and strength to his body. Comfort ### and his wife in ways only You can, wrapping them in Your peace and filling them with Your presence. Remind them that You are near, that You see their tears, and that You hold Gabriel in Your hands.
Lord, we also pray for their salvation. Open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel—that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus Christ. Convict their hearts of sin and draw them to repentance and faith in Him. May they know the assurance of eternal life and the hope that comes from being reconciled to You through Your Son.
Father, we ask for Your grace to cover this family in the days ahead. Provide for their every need—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Surround them with Your love and with brothers and sisters in Christ who can walk alongside them. May Your name be glorified in this situation, and may ### and his wife find their strength and hope in You alone.
We pray all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
