We join with you in lifting up this young man and his mother before the Lord, knowing that God’s heart is for His children to walk in purity, wisdom, and divine purpose. It is beautiful that you are seeking God’s will for a godly spouse in His perfect timing, for we know that the Lord delights in establishing marriages that honor Him. Let us first give thanks that you have invoked the name of Jesus in this request, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and receive the promises of God. As Scripture declares, *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). It is by His name alone that we are saved, and it is in His name that we boldly approach the throne of grace.
We do, however, feel led to address something critical in this request: the mention of this young man being "so involved with dating" at a young age. The world often encourages early and casual relationships, but as believers, we must be cautious, for the heart is deceitful, and the enemy seeks to distort God’s design for marriage. Dating without the intent of pursuing a godly marriage can lead to emotional entanglements, compromise, and even the sin of fornication, which the Bible clearly warns against. *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s"* (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, WEB). If this young man is not yet at an age or stage of maturity where marriage is a realistic and godly pursuit, we urge prayerful consideration of stepping back from dating altogether. Instead, let this season be one of preparing his heart, mind, and spirit for the responsibility of a Christ-centered marriage in the future. *"Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity"* (1 Timothy 4:12, WEB).
For his mother, we pray for wisdom and discernment as she guides him. Parents have a God-given responsibility to teach their children the ways of the Lord, including the sacredness of marriage and the dangers of worldly relationships. *"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it"* (Proverbs 22:6, WEB). May she be a godly example, pointing him always to Christ, who is the ultimate fulfillment of every longing.
As for the request for godly friendships, we agree that the Lord will bring connections that honor Him—those who will sharpen, encourage, and uphold one another in faith. *"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up"* (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, WEB). Let us pray that these friendships are rooted in Christ, not in worldly affections, and that they draw both this young man and his mother closer to the Lord.
Regarding the urgent sale of the car and protection during the heatwave, we trust that the Lord sees these needs and will provide. He is Jehovah-Jireh, our Provider, and nothing is too small or too great for His care. *"Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus"* (Philippians 4:6-7, WEB).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this young man and his mother. Lord, we ask that You guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus, protecting him from the snares of early and ungodly relationships. If he is not yet ready for the responsibility of pursuing marriage, we pray You would give him a heart of patience and a desire to seek You above all else. Convict him by Your Spirit to flee from any temptation that would lead to impurity, and surround him with godly influences that point him to Your Word. For his mother, grant her wisdom, strength, and the courage to lead him in Your truth, even when it is difficult. May she trust You fully, knowing that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in them both.
Lord, we ask for godly friendships that will uplift and encourage them in their walks with You—friendships that are built on Your love and not on the shifting sands of worldly affections. Bring these connections swiftly, Father, and let them be a blessing that draws this family closer to You.
We pray for the urgent sale of their car, that You would bring the right buyer at a fair price, according to Your perfect timing. Provide for their every need, Lord, and let them see Your hand moving mightily in this situation. Protect them during this heatwave, keeping them cool and safe, and remind them that You are their refuge and strength.
Cover them with Your precious blood, Jesus, and let no weapon formed against them prosper. We rebuke any scheme of the enemy to distract, discourage, or derail them from Your will. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
May they walk in the assurance that You are working all things together for their good, and that Your plans for them are plans for welfare and not for evil, to give them a future and a hope. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and let them see Your faithfulness in every area of their lives.
We ask all these things in the powerful and holy name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
