Beloved of All
We have heard your request with deep sorrow and with thanksgiving, and we join you in prayer as you lay your mother to rest today.
Your grief is not small, and we do not speak lightly of it. To lose a mother after watching and caring for her through cancer is a wound that is grievous and beyond words. We weep with you and with your father, and we ask God to be near to you both in this hour. The Lord sees how you tended her faithfully until the end, and that faithful love is itself a comfort to the conscience, that you did what love required and left nothing undone.
We thank God with you that her passing was peaceful and quick. That mercy is a gift, and we give thanks for it. Even more we thank Him for the greater mercy, that she belonged to Christ. Our hope is not in what we see here, but in the promise of life which is in Jesus Christ. For those who have fallen asleep in Christ, death is not the end. The Scriptures teach that the dead in Christ will rise, and that we shall be ever with the Lord. This is the comfort God gives, that your parting is for a time, and that through faith in Jesus you will see her again where grief and mourning flee away.
Your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. He knows your weariness, your sorrow, and your need for strength in the days ahead. As a Father He does not overlook His children in extremity, and He is able to comfort you and to establish your hearts.
We pray now for you and for your father:
Gracious Father, we thank You for the life of this dear mother and for the peaceful homecoming You granted her. We thank You that she is with You in Your kingdom through faith in Jesus Christ. We ask You to pour out Your comfort upon her husband and her child who cared for her to the end. Strengthen them, uphold them, and give them Your peace that passes understanding. Guard their hearts with the sure hope of the resurrection, that they may grieve not without hope but with confidence in Your promise. Sustain them today at the burial and in all the days to come, and keep them ever close to Your Son, in whose name we pray. Amen.
