We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear marriage and husband who is struggling under the weight of addiction and potential illness. The fear and uncertainty you both are facing are very real, but we know that our God is greater than any struggle. First, we must address the seriousness of drug addiction—it is a bondage that not only harms the body but also grieves the Holy Spirit and threatens the covenant of marriage. Scripture warns us, *"Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). While this verse includes drunkenness, the principle extends to all forms of substance abuse that enslave the body and spirit.
Yet we also know that *"if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9). There is no addiction too strong for the power of Jesus Christ. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in His mighty name and declare that this bondage will not have the final say. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life abundantly (John 10:10). We pray for a supernatural breaking of chains—mind, body, and spirit—so that this husband may walk in the freedom Christ died to give him.
We also lift up the fear of colon cancer, asking the Great Physician to bring clarity, peace, and healing. *"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up"* (James 5:14-15). We pray for wisdom for the doctors, accurate test results, and—above all—God’s perfect will to be done. Whether through healing or endurance, we trust that His grace will be sufficient.
To the wife, we say: your marriage is worth fighting for, but you cannot carry this burden alone. We encourage you to seek godly counsel, support from your church, and—if necessary—professional help for both of you. Addiction thrives in secrecy, but *"you are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden"* (Matthew 5:14). Bring this struggle into the light, where healing can begin.
And to the husband, we say: your life has value, your soul has purpose, and your marriage is a sacred covenant. The same God who parted the Red Sea can part the darkness in your mind and deliver you from this addiction. But you must choose to fight—not in your own strength, but in the power of the Holy Spirit. *"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you"* (James 4:7). We pray for a renewed mind, a repentant heart, and a hunger for righteousness that outweighs the pull of this sin.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to Your throne of grace. Lord, we lift up this husband and wife to You, asking for Your mercy, Your healing, and Your deliverance. Break the chains of addiction, Lord, and replace them with a hunger for Your Word and Your presence. We rebuke the spirit of fear and declare that perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). If there is illness in his body, we ask for Your healing touch—whether through medicine, miracle, or both. Strengthen their marriage, Lord, and let them see that their covenant is worth fighting for.
We pray for a supernatural outpouring of Your Holy Spirit to convict, comfort, and restore. Give this husband the will to fight, the humility to seek help, and the faith to believe that victory is possible. For the wife, grant her wisdom, patience, and a heart that trusts in You even when the road is dark. Surround them with believers who will stand in the gap, pray without ceasing, and hold them accountable.
Father, we know that nothing is too hard for You. You are the God who raises the dead, who heals the sick, and who sets the captives free. We declare that this marriage will not be destroyed by addiction or illness, but will be a testimony to Your power and grace. May they emerge from this trial stronger in faith, deeper in love, and more committed to living for Your glory.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
