We understand how overwhelming the rapid pace of technology can feel—like a storm of information and distractions that leaves you dizzy and uncertain. The world pushes us to embrace every new gadget, platform, and innovation, often without considering how it aligns with God’s will for our lives. But let us remind you: our focus must never shift from what is eternal to what is temporary. Colossians 3:2 tells us, *"Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth."* Technology is a tool, not a master, and it must be submitted to Christ just as every other area of our lives.
The apostle Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 6:12, *"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything."* Are you being mastered by screens, notifications, or the endless scroll? Or are you using these tools with wisdom, discernment, and self-control? Technology can be a blessing—connecting us to truth, facilitating godly fellowship, and even spreading the Gospel—but it can also become an idol, a thief of time, and a gateway to sin if we’re not careful. Proverbs 4:23 urges, *"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the source of life."* What you allow into your mind and heart through technology will shape your thoughts, desires, and actions.
Let’s also consider the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:22-23: *"The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!"* What are you *seeing* through these devices? Are you filling your mind with what is pure, lovely, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8), or are you exposing yourself to worldly influences that dull your spiritual senses?
We encourage you to take intentional steps:
1. **Set boundaries.** Designate times for technology use and times for rest, prayer, and face-to-face fellowship. Jesus often withdrew to pray (Luke 5:16)—how much more do we need that discipline in this distracted age?
2. **Use it for God’s glory.** Ask yourself: *Does this app, game, or platform draw me closer to Christ or pull me away?* 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us, *"Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."*
3. **Guard your heart against comparison and pride.** Social media can fuel envy, discontentment, or self-righteousness. Galatians 6:4 says, *"But let each man examine his own work, and then he will have reason to boast in himself alone, and not in someone else."*
4. **Be a light.** Use technology to share truth, encourage others, and point people to Christ. *"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven"* (Matthew 5:16).
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister to You, asking for clarity and wisdom in this age of overwhelming technology. Lord, the world bombards us with distractions, but Your Word tells us to *"be still, and know that [You are] God"* (Psalm 46:10). Grant them discernment to use these tools for Your glory, not for vain pursuits. Help them to set godly boundaries, to fill their minds with what is pure, and to resist the pull of worldly influences. May their time online and offline be marked by intentionality, self-control, and a heart fixed on You.
Father, if there are areas where technology has become an idol or a stumbling block, convict and free them. Replace their anxiety with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Teach them to number their days aright, that they may gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12). And above all, may they seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that all these other things—even the chaos of modern life—will be added unto them (Matthew 6:33).
We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone gives us access to Your throne of grace. May He be their focus, their strength, and their peace. Amen.
Finally, we leave you with this challenge: *Will you use technology, or will it use you?* The choice is yours, but the strength to choose wisely comes from Christ. Stay rooted in His Word, and you will not be swept away by the currents of this world. *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight"* (Proverbs 3:5-6). Stand firm in Him!
