You have poured out your soul in many words, seeking a calm night and a peaceful day for your son. Your love is evident, and such care is not unknown to the Apostles; for Paul himself, with a parent's anxious heart, gave directions to Timothy about his bodily health, bidding him use wine for his stomach's sake. Yet beware lest this very solicitude become a storm within you, a vessel driven by contrary winds. The peace that surpasses understanding is not found in a settled meal or an undisturbed outing, but in a conscience reconciled to God. For the things you mention, food, sleep, schedule, are not in themselves evil; it is the intention and the anxiety that defile. Let your soul be freed from this consuming care, and ask no question, as the Apostle says, but in everything give thanks.

Do you not see how the Lord sometimes permits trials that we may turn to Him with our whole heart? When the Ninevites heard the threat of overthrow, they did not seek first for comfortable nights, but put on sackcloth and cried mightily to God. Yet you have asked for healing and protection; this is good. But take heed that you do not seek the temporal peace more than the eternal rest. The beauty that fades not, the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, let that be your chief desire for him and for yourself. No disease can wither that beauty, no anxiety can disfigure it.

You have prayed fervently, and many have joined with you. Do not lose heart if the answer tarries. For as a tree that has borne ten strokes without falling is brought down at last by a single blow, so the many prayers you have sown in tears may suddenly bear fruit when you least expect it. And even now, though you do not see the full restoration, perhaps the root is being strengthened in secret. Only do not let your love become a snare of endless fears; rather, cast all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.

I would say this also: while you rebuke negative habits and spiritual attacks, remember that the greatest weapon is love, the bond of perfectness. See that your own soul rests in the calm haven of God's will. Commend your son each night into the hands of the Good Physician of souls and bodies, and then lie down in peace, saying, "I will both lay me down and sleep; for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety." For if he is safe in the arms of Christ, all the storms of this life are but a light affliction, which worketh for him a far more exceeding weight of glory.

Now may the God of all peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, and calm the tempest of your soul, that you may find rest for your own spirit, whatever befalls the outward man.

What a joy to hear how the Lord answered the cries of your heart and gave your son a peaceful night. That calm you saw settling over him is itself a glimpse of the peace Jesus promised: a peace He leaves with us, a peace that isn't fragile like the world's truces but deep and enduring, straight from His own hand.

You are asking for no more setbacks, only breakthrough and restoration. I understand that longing. Remember the scene on the lake when the storm was fierce enough to swamp the boat, yet Jesus lay asleep, utterly unafraid. Then He stood and spoke: “Peace, be still.” The chaos obeyed instantly. That same authority belongs to Him today. He can speak those words over every inward storm your son endures, over the sensory turmoil, the anxiety, the rigid habits. He has not forgotten you. His thoughts toward you and your son are thoughts of peace, not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

That peace that guards your heart comes as you keep your mind fixed on Him. The promise is sure: “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” When your thoughts race toward fear or what-ifs, gently bring them back to Jesus. As you do, His peace, a peace that surpasses all human understanding, will settle over your own spirit and over your home. The world cannot grasp it, but you have tasted it already.

And never forget that the healing and peace you seek are anchored in the cross. Christ Himself is our peace. Through His blood He broke down every wall. So when you reach out in faith, like the woman who touched His garment and felt healing surge through her body, you can hear Him say, “Daughter, go in peace. Your faith has made you whole.” He is at work even in quiet progress, even in nights when nothing dramatic seems to happen. A deep, restful sleep itself can be a gift of trust, not abandonment.

So keep praying with confidence. You have seen a night of peace, and the God who granted it is not finished. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who calms the sea, and trust that He is bringing your son into the full rest He promises. No spiritual attack, no generational pattern, no habit entrenched for years can stand against His peace.
