Pacific NorthWest Atmospheric River

Loroywood

Disciple of Prayer
Almighty God, Creator of heaven and earth,
You are the One who measured the waters in the hollow of Your hand and marked off the heavens by Your understanding. The winds obey You. The seas recognize Your voice.
Lord, Your Word declares that You set boundaries for the sea, saying, “This far you may come and no farther; here your proud waves must stop.” We ask You now to reassert those boundaries over the oceans, clouds, and skies.
You are the God who gathers the waters, who calls them by name, who stores up rain in the clouds and does not let a drop fall apart from Your command.
Father, we lift up the ocean currents, the moisture plumes, the winds aloft, and every atmospheric process now in motion. You are Lord over the Pacific, over the jet stream, over the rain that falls and the rain that must stop. Your Word says You cover the heavens with clouds, prepare rain for the earth, and make grass grow on the hills— but You withhold rain and send clear skies when the land needs rest. So we ask You now: give the land rest.
Lord, speak to the storms as You once spoke to the sea, “Peace. Be still.”
Let the winds die down. Let the waves calm. Let the rains ease and the clouds break. You ride upon the wings of the wind. You make the clouds Your chariot. You command the lightning where to strike and the rain where to fall. Nothing in creation operates outside Your authority.
Father, call back the excess waters. Redirect what must move elsewhere. Hold back what has poured long enough. Let the skies clear and the land dry. Your Word declares that You turn storms into whispers and still the roaring of the seas. Do this now, Lord. Still the roar of the ocean-driven storms. Quiet the relentless rain. We trust You as the One who preserves life, who protects cities, homes, rivers, coastlines, and people. Be a refuge to those affected by flooding, a shield to first responders, and a strong tower to all who call on Your name.
Lord, let the outcome be peace, recovery, and restoration, so that people may say, “Surely the Lord has done this.” We acknowledge You as King over creation, and we submit this weather, these waters, and these winds to Your perfect will.
In the name of Jesus, the One through whom all things were made and by whom all things are held together. You are the God who, from the beginning, spoke to the waters and said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear.”
Lord, we ask You to do this again over the Pacific Northwest—command the rains to pause, the heavens to withhold their torrents, and let the dry land appear. Let saturated soil breathe again.
Father, just as Lamech declared over Noah that “this one will bring us comfort concerning our work and the toil of our hands,” we ask You to bring comfort and relief to the people, towns, farmers, first responders, and communities of Washington, Oregon, and the entire Pacific Northwest.
Their hands are weary. Their land is soaked. Their rivers are swollen. Their roads and homes are threatened. Lord, give them rest from the toil caused by the flooding. You are the One who sets the boundaries for seas and rivers and commands where waters may flow. So we ask You now: Set a boundary around the atmospheric river. Push back the moisture conveyor belt pouring over the region. Release a window of calm, stability, and drying, so recovery can begin.
Father, stretch out Your hand over the Pacific Northwest: Protect homes, bridges, farmland, and critical infrastructure. Guard the dams and waterways. Strengthen emergency managers, meteorologists, utility workers, and rescue teams. Give wisdom to those making decisions on evacuations and responses.
Lord, speak “Peace, be still” over the sky, the jet stream, and the river of moisture overhead. Let the weight of the clouds lighten. Let the rainfall diminish. Let the winds settle. We declare that You are a refuge and fortress, and we ask You to surround the Pacific Northwest with Your protection. Be a wall of fire around them and glory within them.
Father, bring relief, rest, and restoration now. Let the land dry, let the rivers recede, and let Your peace settle over the region like a covering.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.

We come before the throne of grace with hearts heavy for the Pacific Northwest, lifting up this earnest plea for divine intervention over the atmospheric rivers causing such devastation. The Scriptures declare, "The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers" (Psalm 24:1-2 WEB). Indeed, our God is sovereign over all creation—over the winds, the waves, and the very boundaries of the sea. We stand on the truth that He who commanded the waters in Genesis to gather so that dry land would appear is the same God who can speak peace to the storms today.

Father, we acknowledge that You alone hold the waters in the hollow of Your hand and measure the heavens with a span (Isaiah 40:12). You set the boundaries of the sea, saying, "This far you may come, and no farther; and here your proud waves must stop" (Job 38:11 WEB). We ask You now to reassert those boundaries over the Pacific Northwest. Command the rains to pause, the winds to still, and the rivers to recede. Let the skies clear and the land dry, that the people may find relief from the relentless flooding and the toil it brings. As You once calmed the Sea of Galilee with a word, we ask You to speak "Peace, be still" over the atmospheric rivers and the jet streams driving this deluge (Mark 4:39).

We also lift up those affected by these storms—the families displaced, the first responders risking their lives, the farmers watching their fields wash away, and the communities facing overwhelming challenges. Be their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Give wisdom to the leaders making critical decisions, protect the infrastructure, and guard the lives of all in harm’s way. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we declare that You are the God who turns storms into whispers and stills the roaring of the seas (Psalm 107:29). We trust in Your power to bring restoration and relief. Let the outcome of this trial point others to Your glory, that they may say, "Surely the Lord has done this" (Job 12:9). We submit this weather, these waters, and these winds to Your perfect will, knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28).

Lord, we also recognize that in times of natural disaster, people often turn to You in desperation, seeking comfort and hope. We pray that many would come to know You as their Savior during this time. For there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). May those who do not yet know Jesus find Him as their refuge and strength, the One who calms the storms of life and offers eternal peace.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, through whom all things were made and in whom all things hold together (Colossians 1:16-17). Amen.

Dear friends in prayer,

We join you today, lifting our voices together for the Pacific Northwest, battered by relentless rains and swollen rivers. Our hearts ache for the people, the homes, and the lands affected by this atmospheric river's unyielding flow.

Father, we come before You, acknowledging Your sovereignty over the heavens and the earth, the winds, and the waves. You measured the waters in the hollow of Your hand, and You marked off the heavens by Your understanding. The winds and the seas obey Your voice. We ask that You would reassert Your boundaries over the Pacific Northwest, commanding the rains to pause, the winds to still, and the rivers to recede.

We lift up the people affected by these storms - the families displaced, the first responders risking their lives, the farmers watching their fields wash away, and the communities facing overwhelming challenges. Be their refuge and strength, O Lord. Give wisdom to the leaders making critical decisions, protect the infrastructure, and guard the lives of all in harm's way.

We trust in Your power to turn storms into whispers and still the roaring of the seas. We believe that You can bring relief and restoration to the Pacific Northwest. Let the outcome of this trial point others to Your glory, that they may say, "Surely the Lord has done this."

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
