Lyrics
This world is not my home
I'm just a-passing through
My treasures are laid up
Somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me
From heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore

Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home
Then Lord, what will I do?
The angels beckon me
From heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore

I have a loving mother
Just up in Gloryland
And I don't expect to stop
Until I shake her hand
She's waiting now for me
In heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore

Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home
Then Lord, what will I do?
The angels beckon me
From heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore

Just over in Gloryland
We'll live eternally
The saints on every hand
Are shouting victory
Their songs of sweetest praise
Drift back from heaven's shore
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore

Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home
Then Lord, what will I do?
The angels beckon me
From heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home
In this world any more

I Can't Feel At Home Any More

What a beautiful and timeless reminder this hymn is of our eternal hope in Christ! The words echo the truth that as believers, we are pilgrims in this world, with our hearts fixed on our heavenly home where our Savior awaits us. The longing expressed in these lyrics reflects the deep yearning of every redeemed soul for the presence of God, where there is no more sorrow, sin, or separation from Him. This world is temporary, but our inheritance in Christ is everlasting.

The apostle Peter reminds us of this truth when he writes, *"Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; having good behavior among the nations, so that in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation."* (1 Peter 2:11-12, WEB). Our citizenship is in heaven, and we are called to live in a way that reflects our allegiance to Christ rather than to the passing pleasures or struggles of this world.

Jesus Himself assures us in John 14:1-3 (WEB), *"Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also."* What a glorious promise! Our Savior is preparing a place for us, and one day, we will be with Him forever, free from the burdens of this life.

Yet, while we await that day, we are called to live faithfully here, sharing the Gospel and pointing others to the hope we have in Christ. The hymn’s refrain, *"Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you,"* is a powerful declaration of our dependence on Him alone. There is no greater friendship, no greater love, than what we find in Jesus. He is our Redeemer, our Comforter, and our eternal Home.

We also see in these lyrics a beautiful anticipation of reuniting with loved ones who have gone before us in faith. The line, *"I have a loving mother just up in Gloryland,"* reminds us that death is not the end for those who are in Christ. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 (WEB), *"But we don’t want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you don’t sorrow like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus."* What a comfort to know that our separation from believing loved ones is only temporary, and we will one day be reunited in the presence of our Lord.

However, we must also remember that this hope is only for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. The hymn’s question, *"If heaven’s not my home, then Lord, what will I do?"* is one that every person must answer. Heaven is not the default destination for all—it is the eternal home of those who have been washed clean by the blood of Jesus. John 14:6 (WEB) declares, *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'"* There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. Repent of your sins, believe in Him, and receive the gift of eternal life.

For those of us who know Christ, let this hymn stir our hearts to live with an eternal perspective. Let us not grow too comfortable in this world, but instead, let us set our minds on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God (Colossians 3:1-2). Let us also share this hope with others, so that they too may know the joy of being heirs to the kingdom of God.

**Our Prayer:**
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the hope we have in Christ—a hope that anchors our souls in the promise of eternity with You. Lord, this world is not our home, and we confess that sometimes we grow weary or distracted by its cares. Forgive us for the times we have lost sight of the eternal and become too attached to the temporary. Renew our minds and hearts, Lord, that we may live as pilgrims, seeking first Your kingdom and Your righteousness.

We lift up those who are grieving the loss of loved ones who knew You. Comfort them with the assurance that one day, there will be a glorious reunion in Your presence, where there will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more separation. Strengthen their faith as they wait for that day.

For those who do not yet know You, Lord, we pray that You would open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel. Draw them to Yourself, that they may repent and believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. May they come to know the joy of having their treasures laid up in heaven, where neither moth nor rust can destroy.

Finally, Father, help us to live today in light of eternity. May our words, our actions, and our priorities reflect the truth that we are just passing through this world, with our hearts set on the home You have prepared for us. Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may be a light to those around us, pointing them to the hope we have in You.

We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is the way, the truth, and the life. Amen.

Oh, dear friend, we feel your longing for home, for heaven. This world, indeed, is not our home. Like the hymn says, we're just passing through, our treasures laid up in Gloryland. We understand the struggle, the feeling of not belonging, of not being able to feel at home here.

But take heart, dear one, for we have a Savior who has gone before us and prepared a place for us. Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me... I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am, you may be also." (John 14:1-3) That's our promise, our hope.

We're here for you, just as you are there for others. Let's encourage each other, remind each other of this eternal hope. Let's live each day with purpose, sharing this hope with those around us.

And remember, we're not alone. We have each other, and we have Jesus. He's waiting for us, and He's with us every step of the way. So, let's keep our eyes fixed on that eternal home, and let's live like it.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
