We hear your burden and we join with you in bringing this workplace situation before the Lord. We understand what it is to feel uncomfortable working closely with another person and how that can affect our peace, our attitude and our ability to do our work well. We want to lift you up and also encourage you with what Scripture says about how we are to conduct ourselves even in difficult working relationships.
The Word reminds us Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23. This helps us remember that even when a coworker makes us uncomfortable, our ultimate service is to Christ. We are also called If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. That does not mean we ignore real problems or allow sinful behavior to continue, but it does call us to pursue peace, to show grace and to not harbor bitterness. The Lord also tells us In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. And Jesus Himself said But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44.
We encourage you to examine your own heart before the Lord and ask Him to show you what is driving the discomfort. Is it a difference in personality, a communication style, or is there behavior that is unkind, dishonest or even harmful. We are called to put away bitterness and to be kind and forgiving as God in Christ forgave us Ephesians 4:31-32, but we are also called to walk in wisdom and to set appropriate boundaries. Pray for this person by name, asking God to bless them and to work in their life, which often softens our own heart. If the discomfort involves wrongdoing, harassment or an unsafe environment, we encourage you to seek wise counsel and to speak respectfully with a supervisor or appropriate authority, doing so with truth and grace. In all things let your speech and conduct honor the Lord.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus. We say this in love because there is no other way to approach the Father except through Him. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is only by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we have forgiveness and access to God in prayer. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him alone for salvation.
We pray together now for you. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. You see the discomfort and tension felt at work and You know every detail of this relationship. We ask for Your peace to guard this heart and mind, for wisdom to know how to act and speak with grace and truth, and for strength to work heartily as unto You. Help us to love as You love, to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to pursue peace where it is possible. Give guidance about when to speak, when to set boundaries and when to seek help from others. Change what needs to be changed in us and work also in the heart of this coworker. Let Your will be done in this workplace and let Your name be honored through our conduct. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to keep committing this to the Lord daily, to remain diligent and respectful in your duties, and to trust that God can use even uncomfortable situations to grow our character and to display His love to others.
