Nosy upstairs neighbors

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I've lived in my apartment for 4 months now...I have been dealing with my noisy upstairs neighbors ever since I moved in... And all started when I started reporting them.... to the landlord and she would talk to them..... but things got worse.... and I've contacted corporate.... and submitted my recordings.... to them and they claim that they couldn't hear them.... and all they did was talk to them.... but they still run and jump and stomp.... all hour's of the night.... They are currently doing it now... I'm so fed up and over this situation.

We hear how weary and frustrated you are after four months of broken sleep and constant noise above you, and we join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord. It is deeply draining when your own home does not feel peaceful, especially when you have taken the right steps to report the issue respectfully and you feel unheard by those in authority. We understand your fed up feeling and we want to pray for both relief and for God's peace to guard your heart in this trial.

We are reminded that God calls us to seek peace even in difficult living situations. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. And Matthew 5:9 says Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. This does not mean we ignore wrongdoing or that we should not advocate for quiet and rest, but it does call us to guard our own hearts against bitterness, anger, or a desire to retaliate. Ephesians 4:31-32 says Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. We also take comfort that God sees your need for rest, Psalm 4:8 says In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety. And Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

In practical ways we encourage you to continue to pursue peace with wisdom. Proverbs 15:1 says A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. If you have not already, we encourage you to ask God for wisdom about whether a brief, gentle, non accusatory note or conversation with your neighbors might help, apart from the landlord reports, as sometimes people do not realize how sound carries. Continue to document dates and times calmly and respectfully with management in writing, and ask the Lord for guidance about mediation resources or other options your lease may provide. James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. We also encourage you to care for your own rest where you can, and to pray for your neighbors and for your landlord and corporate managers, that their hearts would be softened and they would act justly.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to share gently that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We bring our prayers in Jesus name because He alone made the way for us through His death and resurrection, and when we put our faith in Him we are forgiven and brought near to God. If you have not already, we invite you to trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is exhausted and discouraged by the ongoing noise in their apartment. Lord, you know every stomp and sleepless hour, you know the frustration of feeling unheard, and you are our refuge and strength. We ask you to grant deep peace that surpasses understanding to guard their heart and mind, and to grant them restful sleep even in this difficult place. We pray you would soften the hearts of the upstairs neighbors, that they would become aware and considerate, and that you would give wisdom and integrity to the landlord and corporate managers to act fairly and effectively. Grant our friend wisdom, patience, and gentle words, and provide a path to a truly peaceful home, whether through changed behavior, a resolution with management, or your clear leading to another provision. Help them to not grow bitter but to trust you and to love their neighbors while still seeking what is right. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to keep casting your cares on Him, for He cares for you, and to keep praying both for quiet and for the people involved. We are standing with you for God's peace to fill your home and for His wise solution to be made clear.

We can hear how exhausting these four months have been, especially with the stomping and running through the night and feeling like your careful reports and recordings were brushed aside. It makes sense you feel fed up and on edge when home does not feel restful.

You have already taken thoughtful steps going to the landlord and then to corporate in a calm, documented way. When a conflict keeps escalating after those conversations, it often helps to add more structure so emotions do not keep rising on either side and everyone can be heard more clearly.

One steady next step that often helps is to keep everything in writing from here on. Keep a simple log with date, time, how long the noise lasted and how it affected your sleep or work, and keep copies of any emails or letters to management. Then send a brief, factual written request asking what the formal process is under your lease for ongoing noise, whether that is a written warning process, mediation, or another review, so there is a clear record and next step rather than repeated verbal talks.

We are praying for you in this and for a more peaceful home.

Father, we lift this neighbor situation to You. We ask for wisdom for our friend in each conversation, for rest at night, and for a fair and calm resolution for everyone involved. Bring peace to this building and guard our friend's heart from discouragement. In Jesus' name, amen.

To be without peace within your own dwelling is a sore and wearying trial, and your burden after four months of broken nights and unheard complaints is fully understood. To long for quiet in your own home and to find instead running and stomping at all hours, to have reported the matter faithfully and yet to feel unheard by those in authority, is enough to wear down the spirit.

Know this, that though corporate ears may claim they cannot hear your recordings, the Lord hears the cries of His people. He maketh peace in thy borders, and He sendeth forth His commandment upon earth and His word runneth very swiftly. What man cannot or will not do, the Lord can do in a moment. Your peace does not finally rest in the floor above you, but in Christ Himself, who says, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. There is a peace which the world cannot give and cannot take away, a perfect peace for him whose mind is stayed on the Lord because he trusteth in Him. Even with sorrows surging round and with loved ones or neighbors far from kindness, that peace may keep your heart.

The Scriptures call us also to patience, and they themselves work patience in us. You have need of the patience of Job, who could say, The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord, and the patience of David, who held on his way though hunted and opposed. This is not the patience of a brute that cannot complain, nor the stoic who refuses to feel, but the patience of a child who believes in his Father's love, and of a pilgrim who pushes forward knowing his Father watches over every step. Pray that the Divine Spirit may lay His comforts home to your troubled heart, that you may have not only patience, but the patience and comfort of the Scriptures.

You are commanded also to love thy neighbour as thyself, and this is hardest when that neighbour disturbs your rest. It does not mean you must not seek what is right and orderly. It is good and proper to continue to document faithfully, to appeal quietly and respectfully to those set over the house, and to seek peace by all lawful means. But do so without bitterness, and where you can, with a gentle word or a quiet entreaty. Our Lord went about doing good, and began at home, and herein is wisdom, that we seek to be peacemakers in the very place where God has set us.

Let us pray for you. May the Lord give you rest in your home, and grant you that sweet enjoyment of quiet rest in the understanding and the conscience which comes from nearness to Christ. May He give strength to His people and bless His people with peace. May He soften the hearts of those above you, give wisdom to your landlord, and open a way where there seems to be no way. May He keep you in perfect peace as you stay your mind upon Him, and teach you to lie at Jesus feet and there to find that He speaks peace to the weary soul. Cast this burden upon Him, for He careth for you, and He will not leave you without help in this struggle.

Take your sorrow to Jesus, bear it with Him, and you shall find that even in broken nights, His peace can keep your heart till earthly struggles cease and He calls you to heavens perfect peace.
