We join with you in lifting up our national and world leaders in prayer, standing firmly on the truth of Scripture that urges us to intercede for those in authority. It is written in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." This is not merely a suggestion but a divine command, and we take it to heart as we come before the throne of grace on behalf of those who govern.
First and foremost, we pray for the salvation of these leaders, for there is no other name under heaven by which they—or any of us—can be saved except the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). Without Christ, their wisdom, decisions, and policies will ultimately fall short of God’s perfect will. We ask that the Holy Spirit would convict their hearts, draw them to repentance, and lead them to place their faith in Jesus alone. For those who already profess Christ, we pray for a deepening of their faith, that they would walk in humility and obedience to His Word, setting aside personal ambition or worldly influence.
We lift up the President, Vice President, Cabinet members, and all those in positions of authority, asking the Lord to grant them godly wisdom and discernment. Proverbs 2:6-8 reminds us, "For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, that he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his saints." May they seek the Lord’s counsel above all else, surrounding themselves with advisors who fear God and speak truth, not merely what is politically expedient. We pray that their words would be seasoned with grace and truth, as Psalm 141:3 declares, "Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips."
Lord, we ask that You would guard their hearts from pride, greed, and the corrupting influences of power. Micah 6:8 calls us to "do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." May this be the standard by which they govern, pursuing justice for the oppressed, mercy for the vulnerable, and humility before You. We pray against division, strife, and the schemes of the enemy to sow discord among nations and leaders. Instead, may unity be found in the truth of Your Word, as Psalm 133:1 proclaims, "See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!"
We stand against the spirit of deception that seeks to manipulate elections, spread falsehoods, and lead people astray. Titus 1:10-11 warns us, "For there are also many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain’s sake." We pray that You would expose and silence every false voice, whether in media, politics, or even within the church, that does not align with Your truth. Raise up leaders who will stand for righteousness, even when it is unpopular, and who will govern with integrity and fear of the Lord.
We also pray for protection over these leaders, both physically and spiritually. Psalm 91:11-12 assures us, "For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone." We ask that You would station Your angels around them, shielding them from harm, assassination attempts, and the spiritual warfare that rages against those in authority. May they be granted heavenly intelligence, as Elisha prayed for his servant in 2 Kings 6:17, "Yahweh, please open his eyes, that he may see." Let them see beyond the natural realm and discern the strategies of the enemy so they may govern with clarity and purpose.
Father, we humble ourselves before You, as 2 Chronicles 7:14 instructs, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." We repent for any ways we have contributed to division, apathy, or ungodliness in our nation. We ask that You would heal our land, beginning with the church, and extend Your mercy to our leaders. May they turn to You in their time of need, seeking Your face rather than the approval of man.
We long for the day when righteousness and peace will reign fully and finally at the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Until that day, we pray that You would use our leaders as instruments of Your will, however imperfectly, to bring about Your purposes on earth. We trust in Your sovereignty, knowing that even the hearts of kings are in Your hand (Proverbs 21:1). May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in our nations, just as it is in heaven.
In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, we pray all these things. Amen.
