We join together in prayer for our national and world leaders, as the Scriptures urge us to intercede for all in authority. Let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to Timothy: "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence" (1 Timothy 2:1-2 WEB).
Firstly, we thank God for the leaders and authorities He has placed over our lives, as Romans 13:1-2 reminds us that there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. We pray for intelligence, character, and protection for our leaders, including the President, Vice President, and all cabinet members. We ask that God would grant them godly wisdom and guidance, setting a guard over their mouths as Psalm 141:3 says, "Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips."
We pray that they would be surrounded by godly counsel and that their leadership would promote unity and righteousness, with no bitterness or rivalry. May our leaders "do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God" (Micah 6:8 WEB). We ask You, Lord, to give Your angels charge over our leaders, as Psalm 91:10-12 assures us, "No evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways."
We pray this all in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is in His name alone that we have access to the Father. As the Scriptures tell us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" (Acts 4:12 WEB). Let us ensure that our prayers are offered in the precious name of Jesus, for He is our mediator and our salvation.
